The town reports a milder flu season with fewer than a dozen deaths, prompting schools and gatherings to close. Residents compare this year with last, noting calmer streets and less strain on undertakers, while some blame demerits of alcohol as a supposed remedy and question medical opinions.
Funeral services for Mrs Jacob Mock were held at Mt Pleasant church with Rev Joseph Hiatt officiating. Interment followed in the church graveyard. Mrs Mock, 52, was widow of the late Dr H W Mock and mother of nine. she leaves two sisters and three brothers.
Sunday night at 8 15 scouts and officials recited the oath pledging to God country and fellow men. The High Point unit marked the 10th anniversary as 400 000 Boy Scouts of America urged adults to be good scouts all week. The High Mount group planned to demonstrate useful service amid flu concerns. Miss Bessie Hackney of Greensboro stayed with Mrs T J Gold of Oakwood Court over the weekend.
Inmates at the M. P. Orphanage found a suitcase of medicines along Deep River about a mile and a half from the orphanage. Deputy Sheriff J. E. Wagner and the Guilford sheriff linked the items to Dr. A. C. Everett Jetsham of Rockingham. The car theft had deputies tracing the medicine and instruments to the crime scene.
The influenza outbreak cripples Greensboro businesses including the post office with 12 clerks and carriers out of 25 percent of staff. Rural routes lack service, parties like Will Wharton fill in, and the Daily News aids. rail freight is also delayed with 100 to 125 workers idled.
The flu outbreak cripples banks and businesses with cashiers from Home Banking and Bank of Commerce ill. Other staff are absent and overall business lines suffer. The suggestion arises to hire idle teachers and have Boy Scouts assist. B. Spell is seriously ill at home with influenza.

Funeral services for G H Welborn who died of pneumonia at St Peter's Hospital were held at 211 West Seventh Street with Rev J S Hiatt and Rev Shuford Peeler officiating. Welborn 32 born in Thomasville had worked in postal service and as a traveling salesman. He is survived by wife Florella Beck Welborn son William father S S Welborn and brother E S Welborn. He was a member of the Masonic lodge Arab patrol and Elks with interment at Elmwood cemetery Charlotte.
Local updates show Mrs. T. E. McGee ill at home on Mast Green street while Mrs. Frank Gurley suffers a severe cold at West Green street. Miss Dora Walker heads to Reidsville for a short stay with friends.
Postmaster Farriss reports progress in Washington toward expanding High Point post office capacity. Congressman Stedman backs efforts for a new building or an addition, noting High Point’s rapid growth and the upcoming 1920 census data could influence funding and authorization.
R L Hutchings a young white man was convicted in municipal court on possessing a defaced engine number in an automobile. He received three months on the county roads with notice of appeal. He was also found guilty of operating without a state license and carrying a concealed weapon with fines and costs. A larceny charge on the same car was drawn up, likely to be tried in Reidsville.
