Pinkney Wyer aged 70 11 months 19 days died Saturday January 22 at the home of his son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Turner Wall Southmont after a year long paralysis stroke. He leaves a widow five children and 22 grandchildren. Funeral was at Mt Vernon burying ground with Rev. and Rev. Mock and Rev. Shiver officiating. S R Bivens secretary of the High Point chamber of commerce and former Guilford county farm demonstration agent was elected to succeed J C Beavers as county agent by the board of county commissioners. He will take the post if the Furniture City chamber releases him from his contract. Beavers resigns effective March 1. Bivens previously held the county agent post for two years.
Raymond Gibson was arrested Wednesday morning on a charge of attempted rape involving a woman named Miss Penry with whom he had been seeing. He remains jailed after failing to post a $1,000 bond.
