Firefighters battled a Sunday blaze at the Friends church for three hours. Granite walls hindered access as flames from the basement reached the roof. Interior and furnishings including the pipe organ suffered heavy damage. The church, valued at 25 000 dollars, faced losses around 37 500 to 8 000 with partial insurance. Reconstruction planned immediately.
Mayor Pickett received a telegram from Gen. Royster directing the armory be readied for returning soldiers from El Paso. Due to the break with Germany the mustering out is postponed, keeping troops in readiness for any eventualities as they served along the border.
Messrs Geo. T Penny and Jim Penny sell their interest in the American Realty and Auction Co of Greensboro to form the American Land Company. The Thomas Bros will keep the American Realty and Auction Co name and continue operations while the Penny brothers press forward with the new venture.
A bill passed by 53 to 37 to make adultery a serious offense for husbands as well as wives. Supporters say the measure ends gender favoritism and strengthens divorce grounds. The Review has tracked this legislation for years.
Supt. Marr supports adding the eleventh grade at South Main Street School to align with state college entrance standards and aid pupil advancement. The plan aims to ensure pupils can meet college admission requirements.

Additional 61 listed with 50 000 more tons possible. If war declared these ships would be taken as prizes.

It invites readers to visit manager Tobias and staff to explore weekly or monthly payments and favorable cash-equivalent pricing. The High Point Motor Co. holds the state Liberty car agency with large floor space in two locations. Mrs. C C Walker of Spartanburg DC died last week and was interred at First Sepest church service led by Rev. J A Clarke.
Washington reports a man named Jerry Hen metric et al claiming divine direction to back President Wilson and urge swift wartime laws to curb submarine warfare.
