Fire destroys grocery, car and shed in Mechanicsville blaze

Early Sunday fire on the old Lexington road near John son street destroyed the Nerius Albertson grocery, an automobile in a adjoining shed, and a small wooden building owned by Claude Welborn. A nearby house was saved. Loss estimated between 2500 and 3000 dollars with 1500 dollars insured. Origin unknown though rats may have manipulated matches.

Thrilling Armory Friday Night Basketball Games

At the Armory on Friday night five separate games were played. The Eagles beat the Bob White and Eagle patrols in the opening contest. The ninth and tenth grade girls, the ninothers, won the second game while the faculty defeated the high school in the third. Seventh and eighth grade boys saw the seventh graders win the fourth and the ninth and tenth grade boys, the tenthers, won the final matchup.

Glenola resident N. C. McDowell says he was robbed of 193 dollars at Greensboro station after a noon visit by Armour Fertilizer Co. representatives Grover C. Murray and B. T. Sustare. Police searched the men without warrants. another victim, H. B. Nabors, reports 170 dollars missing in Greensboro.

Pocket Book Lost in Boston Recovered at Hardware Store

Frank Allen of the Boston school neighborhood reported losing about 700000 dollars last fall. He discovered the loss while paying a bill at Beeson Hardware Co. on a Tuesday. His pocket book was found behind Beeson Hardware Co in a terra cotta pipe but contained only a receipt.

Died While Visiting Here Rites for Mrs W F Craig

Mrs W F Craig of Sligo Pa died Sunday morning at seven at the home of her niece Mrs W B Griffin on Johnson street after a ten day illness from pneumonia and pleurisy. The remains were sent Monday to No 36, accompanied by her son in law J M Porter and daughter Mrs Porter of Butler Pa. Her brother J D Fulmer and relatives from Elizabeth City and Durham were present at dissolution. Mr Fulmer was too ill to travel.

Mrs. Elizabeth Horney Dies. Longtime High Point Resident

Mrs. Elizabeth Horney aged about 79 or 80 died Saturday at her North Main Street home from pneumonia affecting her heart. She was born July 7 to Peter and Cynthia Davis and survived by one daughter L. Norwood of High Point. She had one living brother W Ransom Davis and was a member of Abbott's Creek Primitive Baptist church for 46 years. Funeral services were at Green Street Baptist with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. her husband Levi B. Horney died nine years ago.
