Veteran Brooks Dies at 74 in Tennessee Home
William Allen Brooks 74 a Civil War veteran died Friday at his Byresburg Tennessee residence. He had visited Richland North Main Street, is survived by brothers and six nephews nieces. A faithful Presbyterian church member Brooks served in Company M North Carolina Infantry then settled in Tennessee.

Roanoke Slaying Suspect Identified as High Point Man
James B. Rodgers, shot dead by a Roanoke policeman after a bank robbery, may be Wm. Payne of High Point. Navy deserter Marion Burnett, who surrendered in Danville, claims the slain man is Payne. Burnett says he viewed the body and would have reported to Roanoke authorities but feared arrest as a fugitive. Authorities in Roanoke and High Point are evaluating the claim and Payne’s whereabouts remain uncertain after prior Greensboro liquor charges and an escape from custody.

Roby Hedgecock, a young white man, faces a preliminary hearing in municipal court on larceny of an automobile charge. Probable cause found. bond set at 1000 to send case to Guilford Superior Court.
