A large turnout backed a proposed $2,000,000 good roads bond issue with optimism for an overwhelming majority. County tax books are ready the county tax deputy Wagner oversees the process. Paying on or before December 1 saves residents one percent on their levy.

Local Man Pardoned by Governor Bickett

J L Grubbs a white citizen of this city was sentenced to five years in the state penitentiary for advising a woman to commit abortion. Governor Bickett granted a Thanksgiving pardon while Grubbs was on bail pending appeal. The pardon was sought by Arungey L B Williams with prosecution backing. The case arose in High Point with preliminary trial in police court and verdict sustained by the Superior Court.

Taxes Due Now with Early Payment Discount

Tax notice states county taxes are due with a one percent discount if paid on or before a specified date. J. E. Wagner signs as the tax collector.

Old Hickory Club Organized In High Point

The Old Hickory club was formalized at a Friday meeting of High Point business and professional men at the Elks home. It will be based on the W. A. Ring farm near Jamestown with 100 leading citizens enrolled. Officers: BE Freeze president, C L Amos vice president, W A Ring treasurer, J S Burton secretary. A seven member board includes E W Freeze, C L Amos, W A Ring, R B Terry, A T Wishart, C A Barbee, Harry Raymond. Groundwork for clubhouse and dam begun. golf links planned later. The stock details were not learned.

Swain Powell Wedding At Swain Residence

Miss Day Swain and D. E. Powell were married Thursday at 8 PM in a quiet ceremony at the A. B. Swain residence east of High Point. Rev P D Brown officiated. A lavish dinner followed. The couple left for a Florida honeymoon and will reside in High Point after returning.

Charles Garland a 21 year old Buzzard's Bay resident declined a one million dollar inheritance claiming he earned nothing to deserve such wealth. Raid Seizes 125 Gallon Still Near Deep River

Deputy J E Wagner Revenue Officer Bob White and Chief Duncan Steed led a raid in Deep River township capturing a 125 gallon still and about 6000 gallons of beer. Baxter Anthony was arrested and jailed after being brought to High Point then Greensboro. One suspect escaped as officers confiscated gear and 27 sacks and other utensils.

Robbery hits Globe store at 215 Main Street

Late Sunday night a robber entered Globe store a ladies ready to wear shop at 215 Main Street and fled with merchandise valued near $2,000. No arrests reported as of press time.

Nursing service expands as Red Cross grows nationwide

The American Red Cross nursing service reports rapid enrollment growth with more than 37 000 graduate nurses enrolled and plans to staff army navy public health service and foreign hospitals. It expands home hygiene rural nursing and public education while coordinating with other groups to train nurses and dietitians for clinics and civilian hospitals.

Greensboro Reinstates License Clash Over Auto Hire Taxes
