This morning at 4 o clock the High Point Furniture Company main building burned to a total loss within an hour. Most machinery and in process furniture were destroyed along with nearby lumber. Origin unknown. The plant owned by M J Wrenn with $150000 capital can resume soon due to brick finishing rooms surviving.
D. H. Milton informs voters in High Point that he cannot serve as alderman due to time demands and asks supporters to replace him on the ticket while thanking them for their consideration and pledging ongoing support for the city’s progressive movement.
Mr. Fred Eshelman withdraws as candidate for Second Ward councilman after being prevailed upon by friends in the northern part of the city to enter his name. The note calls him a good man for the place.
The official Carolina League schedule is published on page eight. It lists when and where all games are played for the season, guiding fans and teams through the upcoming schedule.
Our townsman Mr. A. E. Tate is honored as delegate at large to tour Europe for Co operative Rural credits. He left for New York where over 100 delegates will be banquetted before the boat Saturday. They expect to reach Naples May 19 and return about July 18.

Pork Miller assisted by Col. Tom Booker and Miller’s quartet of Virginia singers will perform at the auditorium on May 13. Miller, Richmond businessman and Confederate veteran, is praised as the best portrayal of the Old Southern plantation negro on stage. Booker, from Amelia County, will join in story and song about a bygone Civil War era, glorifying southern civilization.
Dr William H Glasson lectures at Johns Hopkins on Military Pensions in American Finance while Trinity College Durham reports a tight baseball loss to Wake Forest and a rising track program. Holt and Matton lead a developing Trinity squad as they plan a northern trip and state meet entries.
A well developed male infant was found dead near a southern city septic tank on Sunday afternoon. An autopsy confirmed life at birth, suggesting a physician attended the birth. The case remains a mystery whether the birth occurred in High Point or elsewhere and if the infant was murdered or parentally abandoned.
Mayor Fred N. Tate endorses E A Snow's plan to plant violets along principal streets to beautify High Point and foster civic pride. He urges cooperation, proper care of flower beds, and teaching youth thrift, foreseeing High Point becoming the Violet City.
The ad lists discounted ladies dresses in percals and gingham from 0.98 to 1.50, shirtwaists at 49c to 1.25, lace curtains 98c, lace trimmed muslin skirts 98c, drawers 29c, and boys wash suits up to 1.25. A street brawl on Main near Brown's cafe involved Carl Hargrave, Joe Mennett, and Ira Andrews, resulting in 13 to 35 stitches for the fighters. Hargrave left town, others returned home Monday.
The notice informs residents to register at their voting place by Saturday 9 p.m. for the city election and bond votes. It also requires every voter to pay the county poll tax by Thursday night May 1st and stresses acting promptly to avoid missing deadlines.
