The Elk's Minstrels opened at the Auditorium under High Point Lodge 1155 BPO Elks with Mr and Mrs W R Pattie in charge. A large crowd attended despite poor weather and praised the cast for strong performances in many leading roles with notable numbers and songs.

A public Knights of Pythias meeting is set for Wednesday at 8:00 PM in the Odd Fellows Hall Sherrod Building. Speakers include Uncle Joe Pridgen of Durham Hon J G Baird of Charlotte Hon Woodrow Wilson Major Geo H Royster of Greensboro and others. a Damon and Pythias story will be told. Afterward the Greensboro creek degree team will perform the Bank of Page.
Tuesday a deal made Artic Ice & Coal Co of Greensboro takes ownership of High Point Ice & Fuel Co. W G Burnett sells his stock and retires. The plant, valued around $50 000, includes an ice plant bottling works real estate and equipment. The new company assumes control immediately. Burnett plans no decision yet on future business but hopes to stay in High Point.
First Presbyterian in High Point will gain sixteen rooms with plans drawn by Flem Norman, Dr William A Hayes and Frank Wineskie. Plans will be left at Snow Lumber company for inspection, and work will start immediately once subscriptions are confirmed. A new organ will also be installed.

At 10 30 last night near West Green Street B H Bradners Store Patrolman Charlie Ferguson shot John Price a white man employed by Southern Power Co and living at a company camp Ferguson says self defense Price drunk created a nuisance when Ferguson went to arrest him Price allegedly fired a pistol and hit Price in the heart causing immediate death Price body taken to J W Sechrest undertaking for an inquest Witcher earlier died from gunshot incident and Ferguson may fear similar fate
The Spark's Circus arrived in town and drew a large crowd despite rain. A noon parade featured new acts and lively performances by acrobats clowns seals sea lions ponies and elephants. Manager Mr. Smith praised the success and gave the editor a pleasant call.
At a stockholders meeting held Tuesday night at the Commercial Bank the old board of directors were re elected and named Geo A Matton to succeed the late J P Redd ing as president The association has a remarkable record and will continue to improve under the new leadership
In debates at High Point and Jamestown Thursday night both sides favored Jamestown as the question on initiative and referendum was discussed. High Point sent Glenn Muse and Sidney Perry at home and Olin Cummings and Marvin York at Jamestown. Jamestown’s Ivey Cashatt and Newlin Hodgin spoke for the affirmative while Clyde Ridge and David Coltrane defended the negative.
The High School Dramatic Club stages Engaged by Wednesday at the auditorium on April 21 to benefit the high school annual. Tickets are 30 cents and 35 cents.

Mrs. W D Simmons dies at High Point Hospital after an appendicitis operation. A lifelong town resident, she was daughter of Mrs P E Jarrell and mother to William Pauline Frank George and Mary. She had two sons from her first marriage to John Dyer who study medicine in Louisville and Oak Ridge.
President Wilson ordered almost the entire Atlantic fleet into Mexican waters to compel a public salute to the American flag from the Huerta government as an apology for the Tampico arrest of American marines last Thursday.
Jonathan P. Deputy State Organizer J. H. O Neill promoting a Greensboro tent drive to recruit 100 members this month. A large initiation class is planned for Friday night and a public meeting next Tuesday with refreshments. The Maccabees claim strong finances, a six million dollar surplus, and immediate policy value. Initiation fees waived except a $1.50 medical exam. Exam doctors are H W McCain and S S Coe.
The Leopard Spots a play by Thomas Dixon opens at the Auditorium on April 23. It is praised for dramatic power and punch and endorsed as a major national event by Senator Vardaman of Mississippi, who calls its production the year 1913’s most important national event.
