Centennial celebration for Deaconess Ingram at New Brown Baptist
Deaconess Virginia Ingram marked her 100th birthday on June 28 at New Brown Memorial Baptist Church in Red Hook. The event drew family from across the country, with Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez and Assemblyman Felix Ortiz in attendance. Ingram, born in Lynchburg Virginia, moved to New York in 1930 and helped found the church after meeting Andrew McBride at 811 Hicks, later sharing a lifelong mission of voting rights and community music programs. The afternoon featured speeches, gospel singing, a Psalm recitation, and a buffet luncheon in the church basement.
