Red Hook Civic Association Tackles Traffic Woes
About two dozen residents met at Patrick Daly School to press for better truck routing and traffic flow in Red Hook. Leader John McGettrick proposed rerouting cars to Richards Street and trucks to Conover Street, with a fence on Conover to be removed to ease access to Hamilton Street. Attendees voiced concerns over truck volumes on Van Brunt and Sullivan Streets and property damage from collisions. A traffic light at Van Brunt and Walcott is finally being installed, with ideas to lower Van Brunt speed to 20 mph and add crosswalks near Valentino Park and Van Brunt Pioneer.
