The American Legion Auxiliary will sell poppies Saturday May 6 in Potter and Sidney to raise funds for veteran rehabilitation and relief. Poppies are made by disabled veterans, and proceeds support local aid. wearing the flower honors soldiers who died for the country. Buy a poppy to show respect and help the drive.
Henry Stahla of Potter and Ella Cordis of St Ignatius Montana were united in marriage at Denver on Monday this week and will establish their home near Potter at the Grasmeere ranch east of Potter Mr Stahla engages in irrigated farming. The note ends with thanks for a cigar to the groom.
County agent Swinbank spent Tuesday visiting Potter, meeting local residents and inspecting agricultural programs and facilities in the town.
Under a Tuesday resolution the board of county commissioners authorized tax foreclosures on Potter properties in the county’s name. The town board asked for action, with foreclosures to be conducted by the county and costs borne by the county while the village covers attorney fees. No start date set, but proceedings may begin soon, following Dalton and Sidney plans and similar county practice outside village limits. The program has proven effective for governments, with most delinquencies paid before sale.
Potter village warns residents to keep chickens and other fowls confined as ordinances require and prohibit running at large. Complaints cite violations and enforcement penalties may follow.
Regular auction sale on Saturday May 6 starts at 11 30 for furniture and miscellaneous items. A lot of furniture is promised. Livestock sales begin at 1 00 sharp to finish before the 4 30 parade at Sidney Sale Pavilion.
Twenty three plates were served at the Potter Community Boosters club dinner at the Te brinke cafe. A program of business and entertainment followed. The group favors continuing Potter Days with date to be announced and will sponsor a Potter youth to Boys State at Lincoln in June. Next meeting set for June 7 at Stines Cafe with Fred Emeraldsen leading.
Potter Nebr. village trustees met in regular session with Acting Chairman Dean Hagermeister and officials approving minutes and detailing claims. New officers and roles were chosen, including Alfred Arnell as temporary and then permanent chairman, H. Stevens as clerk treasurer, Dr. W. T. Sloan to the health board, and Fred Vaughan granted a billiard hall license. Ongoing matters included delinquent taxes, village telephone finance for marshal Iverson, and foreclosures discussed with attorneys Kepler and Heaton. Local school notes cover Snow White program, first aid lessons, and recent student activities.
John Witt remains quite ill at his daughter’s Fremont home after recent treatment in Omaha. Mrs. Witt plans to leave today for Fremont and Mr. Witt is expected to have an operation to correct a long standing internal trouble.

In third grade top spell scores went to Janice Juelfs Tom mie Kubes Jeanne McMillan Jeona Jane Tank Daniel Phelps and Henry Rosenthal. Second grade high spell scores went to Pat sy Lou Fiegenschuh Margaret Ann Gunderson Robert Grothe and Doug las Hermansen. Gerald Gerler won high number game during last Wednesday arithmetic period. We enjoyed Edith Oldershaw visiting Friday afternoon.
Pastor W. T. Kahse leads Sunday program including Sunday school at 2 15 p m and worship with sermon at 3 p m on The Minster's Way. Do not fail to hear this sermon and join in worship.
About 150 boosters paraded Sidney streets forenoon Saturday with a lively band in period Union Pacific costumes. The crowd included children from local schools as the caravan paused in Dix Kimball Gering and Scottsbluff en route, led by the state safety patrol.
The regular meeting of Nebraska Nurses Association District No 5 will be held at the Lincoln hotel in Scottsbluff on May 6. A 75 cent luncheon starts at 12 30 with a 1 30 p m business meeting. Music by the Methodist hospital nurses octette. M F Shafer M D will give a public health talk and other authorities will speak.
Five head of cattle to pasture offered by Homer Jaeger located one mile south of Potter. Reasonable price.
The Omaha good will train stops in Potter on May 10 at 12 26 PM for a 14 minute visit. About 80 to 90 Omaha businessmen will stroll the streets visiting stores and residents. A concert by Jan Desdunes colored band will precede balloons whistles and advertising gifts for children. No business will be discussed during the stop as part of a 2031 mile tour through Nebraska Wyoming and Colorado May 7 to May 18.
The Ladies Aid society will meet May 10 in the M E church parlors. Hostesses include Mrs. Wim Hagemeister, Mrs. Ed Wiekhorst, Mrs. Ray Wiekhorst, Mrs. Ed Browning, Mrs. Ray Fisher, Mrs. Neil Dunlavy, and Mrs. George Reetz. Devotions by Mrs. Nick Jacobson. Mr Clyde Nelson and Mrs Nelson traveled to Kimball on Sunday to help celebrate the birthday of Mrs Davis Raper, Mrs Nelsons mother.
Reverend C. R. Tanner, a patient at Mercy hospital in Denver, is reported resting much easier and hopes to return home soon.
