IG Hawthorne is a statewide authority on fire prevention and public safety. He will speak to school children after noon and present a public lecture with demonstrations at 7:30 PM in the school auditorium. Admission is free. He cites nine years on a city fire department and shows moving pictures of real fire scenes and survivor stories.
John Witt made a business trip to Omaha Saturday returning Monday. He was accompanied by Andrew Nelson who stopped at Columbus and Miss Letha Moench visiting at North Bend.
Local note describes a near shooting during a family feud matter titled The Ozark Cousin. Archie and Mrs. Archie MicMilan own a new V-8 sedan while Mrs. George Whitney seeks treatment at Kimball hospital.
The annual American Legion amateur night drew a packed house with strong talent and lively voting. Marjorie Smith and Cynthia Reetz won first for song and dance, earning $5, with Ferdinand and company second for humor and song and $3, Nathan Mudge third for oratory at $2, and others earning prizes. Raymond Slocumb hosted, Mrs Slocumb accompanied, and Misses Minnie Rohlfing and Fern Larsen aided backstage. Lawrence H Schwartz presented the flowers from the Legion.
Major Chas Mahr of Alliance visited Potter on Wednesday to lead the annual Salvation Army drive. The campaign, conducted once yearly, secured liberal contributions.
Robert Gunderson aged 63 died yesterday at Kimball after a long illness. He was born in Potter and raised here and was the elder brother of Chas and Gus Gunderson. He had lived in Dix for several years. Funeral arrangements were not announced. Obituary to follow.
Judge George W. Irwin, a prominent jurist and Legionnaire, died in Scottsbluff last week from double pneumonia. He had served as district judge and was a former district commander of the American Legion after WWI gas exposure. Lawrence H. Schwartz of Potter attended the funeral. burial followed in Creighton.
Dewey Lovell, dismissed from Cheyenne veterans hospital last week, resumes duty as carrier on the Kirk mail route. Harry Court has carried mail during Lovell's absence. Thomas Iverson returns after a long confinement in the veterans hospital and is hopeful for continued strength.
Clifford Witt suffered bruises and shocks last Thursday evening when his coupe skidded on icy pavement near Cheyenne and rolled into a ditch. He was traveling slowly due to fresh snow covering ice and the vehicle ended up wheels up but was driven home the next day.
The American Legion thanks all participants in amateur night held Tuesday. Special praise goes to accompanist Mrs Slocumib and backstage workers Miss MccLaughlin and Larsen, with Raymond Slocumb as main promoter and master of ceremonies. Gratitude extended to volunteers and attendees.
Johnn Witt has tendered his resignation as chairman and member of the village board of trustees, but the board has not yet acted on it.

L. J. Wheeler departed yesterday for Denver to see doctors regarding his recent operation and pursue further medical advice.
Potter school sends Girls Glee and Boys Glee groups to the Lodgepole Valley Music Festival on March 31 with mixed chorus and several solo and instrumental acts. The event aims to showcase small school talent and provide public performance experience, with robes purchased for the girls glee group to serve as school property and reduce annual uniform costs.
Johanna Fisher visited our room Tuesday afternoon. Jo Anna Hagemeister recited a memorized poem about Kitty. The class enjoyed hearing new poems and learning Wind and Spring through readings. Dennis Juelfs presented a straw horse and rider from Mexico, a gift from grandparents, while Dennis Jo Ann and Patsy Ruth Hagemeister shared cards of items seen between here and California related to a story about two children who visited California.
Third grade pupils Gerald Christensen Harold Fiegenschuh Leona Jane Tank and Maxine Patterson earned top scores. In second grade Margaret Ann Gunderson Marjorie Himmelright and Wayne Thies achieved high marks.
In ont class on Friday students drew tulips and had a spell down. Cynthia Ann Reetz stood the longest, Joyce Juelfs second. Johanna Fisher visited Tuesday before recess. Friday spelling awards went to Barbara Kaderli and Anna Grothe.
Bernice Seyfang visited the class on Friday while Thelma Mathewson earned a spelling award. The sixth grade cipher down saw Jeane Hagemeister with the high score and Eugene Stormberg in second place, following the earlier readings and selections including a third book choice.
Dr. W. T. Kahse leads Sunday services at First Lutheran Church with church school at 2 15 p m and worship at 3 p m The pastor continues a sermon series and urges all to attend and bring a friend.
Arrangements are in place for a pump irrigation and machinery show in Sidney on March 27 and 28. Six irrigation experts will appear, with J C Swinbank and J W Nielsen in charge. Thirteen manufacturers will exhibit latest irrigation and pumping tech, with talks by Wheatland, Nebraska and Colorado speakers. The event is non profit with no admission, to promote western Nebraska irrigation development. Exhibits will be in the city auditorium and lectures at the theatre.
Pastor C R Tanner invites attendance at church school at 10 and worship at 11 next Sunday with no 7:30 service. Young people travel to Kimball for a Sunday service, departing Potter at 5. Official board meets Friday night March 24. All church night Wednesday March 29 includes a basket supper at 7 and a talk by Wim Hagemeister on his west coast and Mexico trip with photos.
St Pauls Lutheran Church led by Pastor G H Boehnke stands 12 miles northeast of Potter and 13 miles west of Gurley. Sunday school at 9 30 a m English service at 10 a m and German Lent services at 2 p m welcome to our services.
A stage production titled The Ozark Cousin drew a hearty audience and sparked applause with its humorous scenes and quick dialogue. Performers delivered brisk pacing, and the curtain call celebrated a light, entertaining show.

Achievement day set for April 14 in Sidney.
Byron M. Johnson of Potter was a delegate from Nebraska Wesleyan University Lincoln to the regional conference of the Mississippi Valley International Relations clubs at the University of Omaha last Friday and Saturday. Delegates came from seven Midwestern states and parts of Canada. Co host to the conference was Duchesne College of Omaha.
