The Potter Review marks its eighteenth year since first issue on March 12, 1912. C. C. Stevens founded the paper and business in town. The current publisher has led most of the eighteen years and is the county’s longest serving editor.
Lodge Pole led all the way to beat Big Springs 11 9 in the final, with Lewellyn 23 Potter 22 and Potter losing 22 23 to Lewellyn in the consolation. Potter struggled from the line and saved by Christensen scoring, while Lewellyn and Big Springs provided a tight semifinal, as officials Greene and Miller praised sportsmanship and Potter’s late rally. All Tournament picks honored Christensen of Potter, Seda Sundl, Dixon, Forman, Pulliam, Bale, Bills, Nelson.
A note indicates next week's paper will carry a complete season resume for both grade school and high school games. At the 10:20 a.m. assembly on March 14, letters will be awarded to players who earned this distinction.
Roy C. Webb, a penitentiary inmate, praises Sheriff J. M. Nelson in a letter to Mrs. Nelson after the sheriff’s death. The note expresses remorse for past crimes and seeks to reform, describing the sheriff as the whitest man and sheriff he ever knew.
Official word lists the winning bidders for three Star routes from Potter. Guy Hite will run the Antelope south route for four years starting July 1 1930. Dewey Lovell takes the north route and Chas Stanton the Laura route. Brown replaces Gregory as depot helper.
A Potter school column reports on Bruce Hagemeister, a Naval Academy graduate from Potter high, excelling in the upper quartile. It notes visits by Yeoma Troy and Ida Jorgenson, emphasizes patron involvement in school affairs, and previews an upcoming class group photo and report cards. It also covers tournament notes from Lodge Pole, spelling contests results, and lists names of students with perfect spelling or absences.
Visitors in the music room last week were Mrs. Boyd and Carol Cords. The date for the district music concert at Chadron has been moved from March 29 to April 5. The program will be by students from both grades and high school and include a one act play and musical numbers.
Edith Olson, Clemence and Doyle Easton, Frederick Harris, Evelyn Anderson and Emily Hagemeister were absent last week. Six weeks exams occurred Friday. Erma Bartlett, Evelyn Mayer, Opal Bovee and Wilma Slama were excused from English exams. Evelyn Mayer and Wilma Slama were excused from sociology exams. No one was excused from typing and chemistry.
Fern Ferguson has been absent for several days due to mumps. Lucille Lambert visited Sidney on Friday afternoon. Clifford Witt and Charlie McKee were absent Monday. Most Juniors took at least one examination.
Sophomores begin book three covering Proportion, Measurement and Similar figures. Faye Bovee was absent with mumps. Attendees at Lodge Pole basketball tournament: Ervin Wheeler George Wills Frost Christensen and Charles Warner. Six weeks tests are over.
Ida Jorgenson and Yeoma Troy visited the algebra class last Wednesday. Those earning 88 percent or more in the last six weeks included in Latin Zada Olivette Sloan Chrystie Bertramson Gordon Johnson Hildur Carlson and Shirley Mayer. In Algebra the top scorers were Zada Olivette Sloan Vivian Herboldheimer Gordon Johnson and Shirley Mayer. General Science top scorers were Gordon Johnson Everett Nelson and Shirley Mayer. Absent last week were Chrystie Bertramson Margaret Van Pelt Everett Nelson Alice Carlson Gordon Gunderson.
Marion Shaw from Phoenix Arizona visited us all day on Wednesday. Carol Cords dropped by after the last recess. We enjoy visits from both younger and older students. Arvin Nielson and Raymond Oeltjen were absent Monday.
Irma Haddin marked her birthday with all day suckers. Mrs. Boyd visited Friday afternoon. Wendell Snooker has returned after a long siege of whooping cough. Daily attendees for six weeks include Teddy Boyd Bernard Grothe Venetta Light Bernice Seyfang Maynard Stines Kathryn Hagemeister Clarence Henry Myrtle Johnson. Ten percent achievers listed: Mildred Robertson Margaret Haddin Irene Baker Dorothy Anderson Janice Babcock Donald Warner Myrtle Johnson Teddy Boyd.
The text welcomes Harriette MacAdam as a new pupil. It lists last week’s gold star recipients: Rodney Hruza, Kenneth Schwartz, Betty Jean Dyke man, Kenneth Hicks, Hope Fisher, Lynna Stines, Vanita Schuessler, and Cleo Baker. Absent students last week were Ar vila Erickson, Willemine Johnson, Douglas Reetz, Louise Schwartz, and Vernon Snocker.
Mrs Boyd visited Friday afternoon and Marion Shaw returned from Phoenix last week. Kenneth Kaderli Deloris Coulter Kenneth Merscheim return after illness. Deloris ear trouble and Kenneth M a bad cold. Bobby Johnson absent. Lupe absent Monday. Deloris and Ray Bovee moved to the country. Miss Lucille Higgins their new teacher. Bertha Mae Reetz back, read six first readers while home.
The 23 member Nebraska Wesleyan University Glee Club will perform at Potter on Sunday March 16 at 12 a.m. at the M E church replacing the morning service. No admission charged free will offering requested. Director Oscar Bennett and Floyd Hansen lead a program including Wagner Tennyson Bell events Rachmaninoff and spirituals Deep River and Song of the Marching Men with solo and brass items.
Prof. Peterson of Kimball will lead both morning and evening services next Sunday. Sunday school at 10 a m. Morning service at 11 a m. Epworth League at 6 30 p m. Evening service at 7 30 p m. Everyone invited to attend.
Public notice announces an election on Tuesday, April 1 1980, at the Potter public library room to elect two School District No. 9 board members for three years, two Village Trustees for Potter for two years with one vacancy, and one Potter police magistrate for one year. Polls open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Officials C E Biggs and H Stevens publish dates March 7 14 21 28.
Mable and Frost joke about flying and a playful chase leads to a quip about a car wreck. Professor Snocker requests parental names as George answers Papa and Mama. In another line, Josie jokes about a long owned car and a supposed wreck. The poem hints at a moonlit scene and mistaken identity.
The Nebraska state department of publicity reports a steady gain in demand for Nebraska farm lands. Nebraska newspapers record actual sales including Auburn transfers and high per acre prices. Deals involve Wm Schlange, John Pohlman, Fred Oestmann, Carl Bohling, James Schwab, and Jay Rising among others signaling renewed faith in soil as a safe investment among farmers and capitalists.
Mrs C E Smith remains a patient in a Sidney hospital and is progressing well after her recent operation. Friends expect she will be able to return home this week.
Nebraska hosts two famed Blue River homesteads the Daniel Freeman site near Beatrice the first homestead entry in the United States and the Morrill homestead near Stromsburg filed in 1872 by Charles H Morrill The Morrill home remains a preserved log mansion with a notable collection and oxen wagon display while Morrill Hall at the state university houses Nebraska relics and the sites endure as emblems of pioneer spirit and loyalty.

The Ladies Aid will meet at the church parlors Wednesday March 12. Due to sickness the group could not arrange a committee. All members are asked to bring a few sandwiches cake or cookies. Everyone is welcome.
