The Cheyenne county sheriff James M Nelson died early Saturday after being shot by escaped inmate Thomas V Tompsett near Sidney on February 20. Deputy Richard Carlson was wounded, both men were transported to Sidney hospital. Tompsett captured near Huntsman. Nelson aged 54 years.

Frederick Harris Burned In Chemical Explosion
A chemistry class accident last Tuesday caused severe burns to senior Frederick Harris of Potter. A test tube with phosphorus exploded, burning his arms and clothing before classmates extinguished the flames. He was taken to a doctor where burns were treated and expected to heal quickly. Nelson family mourns Sidney resident at funeral crowd
Alma, Ada, Josephine and Em ory among the children of the deceased who survived by a wife and aged parents. Funeral services were held at the M. E. church in Sidney on Monday February 24 1930 in a service led by Rev. Hall F. Schenck with the largest crowd ever at a Sidney funeral. Internment followed in Sidney cemetery with pallbearers and state officers in attendance. Milo G. Rice Funeral Home directed services.

The Coyotes beat Sedgwick 17 to 14 in a close game played last Tuesday evening.
