Rain across the panhandle dropped two to four inches, flooding creeks and damaging crops in parts of Potter and nearby towns. In Potter the cemetery water project drew strong donations from lot owners and supporters, with funds enough to start the windmill storage tank and piping plan, though more funds and labor remain.
The report notes a severe hailstorm on Monday night following last Thursday’s storms, one of the few strong hail events in 25 years. Officials say moisture will aid crops and grasses and nearly guarantee adequate moisture for a winter wheat crop.
A party from Fort Collins Colorado narrowly escaped a serious crash Monday when a sedan rear axle failed at about 65 miles per hour on the Lincoln highway near Potter. The wheel broke loose but the car halted without overturning and the travelers stayed for a new axle installation before continuing.
The American Legion and Auxiliary district four will hold their annual picnic at Minatare Lake on June 21 in the park north of the veterans camp. Bring a picnic lunch basket. Ice cream and coffee are furnished. Lunch at 12:00. Games races swimming for all ages in the afternoon. Bring the family for an all day outing.
Dr. W. T. Kahse, pastor, invites attendance at Sunday school at 2 15 p m and worship with sermon at 3 30 p m. Come and bring friends to the Lutheran church services.

Contractor A. B. Irwin of Kimball, with H. M. Brown of Sidney, started PWA project No. 2 to modernize the switchboard. A temporary board is in use, with 45 percent government grant and 55 percent village funding. The $1808 contract will take three to four weeks, with brief service interruptions and clock regulation adjusted during construction.

The Potter Methodist church will host a Children’s Day program at 11:00 a.m. next Sunday with Sunday school song scripture reading Proverbs 3 13 23 by Ralph Anderson prayer by Rev. C. R. Tanner poem We Thank Thee by Jessie Mae Hughes readings by Jeanne Hagemeister and the Primary Department. Cradle Roll report by Mrs. Byron Pavlat and closing hymn This Is My Father’s World. Participants should attend practice Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and parents are asked to note.
William H. Norfolk of three miles southeast of Novelty died at his home at 3 15 o clock Saturday at age 65. Funeral services were at Locust Hill Church at 2 30 o’clock Monday May 25 1936 by Rev L C Mauck of Quincy. Burial was at Locust Hill Cemetery. Surviving are his widow and seven children Alice and Josephine at home James Norfolk Los Angeles Dewey Norfolk Buffalo Elmer Norfolk Gillette John and Edward Norfolk of Gillette a sister Mrs Bernard Dent and brothers George LaPlata Clifford New Cambria and Bert Gillette also a son of John and Mary Elizabeth Norfolk born May 1 1871. He married Pearlie May Murray April 11 1895 and they had nine children two died in infancy. Mr Norfolk moved to Gillette Wyoming in 1919 then bought the home southeast of Novelty in 1934 where he died.
The Potter Cubs debut as a new team name and fall behind 10-0 in the first inning at Chappell. Leo Fisher started, was ineffective, replaced by Earl Anderson who finished the game. Cubs ended 12 to 5. New uniforms arrived. 12 sets including caps. Season-ticket sales funded uniforms at 5 dollars each. Next game is against the Sidney Seals at Farmers Union picnic. Ervin Marratt pitching with Clyde Trump catching. Potential new outfielder may balance Seals for a better chance. Admission 25 cents for men. women and children free.
Married Mr Edward Chub Winn and Miss Opal Wheeler of Potter were joined in marriage by Rev J J Sheaff at Sidney Methodist church last Saturday. Both are well known in Potter. Mrs Winn is the daughter of Mr and Mrs L J Wheeler and a Potter high school graduate. Mr Winn is a son of Mr and Mrs J E Winn, former Potter residents. They plan to live in the west part of town. The Review offers congratulations.
Mark Werners Alliance district W PA director announced approval of Cheyenne county commissioners WPA project to grade and surface 110 miles of roads at about 131,863 dollars. The project would employ about 120 people for a year and be distributed across three commissioner districts with specified miles for grading reshaping and surfacing.
Dc. R. Tanner, pastor, notes next Sunday’s Children’s Day program at 11:00 AM with all welcome. Evening service at 5:00 PM at Johnson Grove features Rev. Wim Kilburn, former Sidney pastor now Gothenburg, as speaker. Vacation Bible School opened Monday with 58 enrolled. two weeks total with upcoming achievement announcements.
Thurman Bud McMillan and Miss Josie Juelfs, both of Potter, were married by Rev. L V Slocumb at 8 30 p m last Saturday June 6 1936. Witnesses were Mr and Mrs Richard Juelfs Archie McMillan and Marvin were present. Bride daughter of George and Mrs Juelfs, beauty parlor work in Potter for two years. Groom son of Archie and Mrs McMillan Potter. Both Potter High School 1933 graduates. They plan to reside in Potter with well wishes from the community.
Mr and Mrs William Hagemeister depart Tuesday for Dallas Texas to attend the Texas Centennial Exposition They expect to return by the Fourth of July indicating a family trip tied to the state centennial event.
Mrs Edna Goding Mayer departed Monday for a tour of Klamath Falls Oregon and various locales in California. She plans to join her sister Elizabeth Goding who is visiting in California.
Roland Biggs, previously employed by Babcock Implement in Sidney, is home this week with a badly injured hand and hopes to return to work soon.
