Second Grasshopper Warning Issued
Observations over the past week and farmers reports show heavy hatching of young grasshoppers in many localities. Hoppers hatch by the thousands along fence rows, ditches, stubble and weed fields and remain at hatch sites for about ten days to two weeks before spreading. To control pests they should be poisoned before leaving the hatching grounds. a few pounds now can do more good than a ton later. Limited government hopper poison is available at county agent Swinbank’s office while it lasts. A few farmers have secured poison and are trying to suppress the pests. Neglected control now invites crop damage later unless wet weather slows them.
