By-Product of Dairying En Riching County
Cheyenne county gains about $60 000 yearly from soil fertility as a by-product of dairying per the Blue Valley Creamery Institute based on records from many farms. Manure yields 7.4 tons per cow valued at $2.60 per ton, totaling around $20 per cow. with 3 000 dairy cattle the added soil fertility value is substantial. The institute also cites 25 to 50 percent feed profit from improved feeding practices, supported by a University of Minnesota dairy study. A year ago the dairy division bought four average cows and increased each cow’s production by nearly forty percent on a home-grown ration without a scientific feeding plan.
