Enormous Rabbye and Coyote Round Up Planned for New Year

A massive rabbit and coyote roundup is planned for January 1 1934 covering about 120 000 acres north and east of Potter with a start at 10 am. The Sidney Lions Club sponsors the hunt which includes six men per boundary line and recruits from Sidney Dalton Gurley and Potter. If successful more events may follow across the county with captains assigned to each mile boundary.

Municipal Christmas Tree A Thing of Beauty

A 15 foot municipal Christmas tree erected last Saturday at the intersection gleams with a profusion of colored lights. It is visible from a distance at night, adding festive charm to the area.

Eastern Star Elect Officers For Coming Year

Potter Chapter of Eastern Star elected Melba Biggs as worthy matron and Lloyd Rogers as worthy patron for the coming year. Rena Seyfang was chosen associate matron with Ella Hadley as associate patron. Viola Miller will serve as secretary and Mattie Quein as treasurer. Edith Johnson is conductress with Lillian Robertson as associate conductress. About 35 members attended the meeting and a surprise tea towel shower was given to Mrs. Miriam Reichstein. A dessert luncheon followed hosted by Mrs. Thayr, Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Edith Johnson.

Students on the honor roll for typing at this west site include Accuracy Ruby Jones Noreen Winn Avis Hill Speed Bernice Babcock Doris Tutt Fred Carlson. The Ones lead the Tens by 13.7 points per head with the iTens class mostly girls except one boy they are proud to be ahead of the girls.

Town Basketball Scrimmage Pits Town Team Against High School

Last Monday evening at 7 30 PM a town basketball team faced the high school squad in a 20 minute scrimmage. No score was kept as both sides traded equal licks during five minute periods. Town players included Gene Schmidt Dick Juelfs Elwood Harms Ervin Wheeler Glenn Ross Bill Fricke Mark Goding Willard Christensen and J L Fowler.

Christmas Cantata Draws Hundreds In Potters Field

This week in music classes concluded with a Christmas cantata to about five hundred spectators. Seventy four voices performed as the free will offering raised 21 dollars, with Auxiliary giving 5 dollars and Legion covering the rest. Principal wishs Merry Christmas and a successful New Year. Seventh and Eighth Grades note Ray Godling’s return from surgery and friends visit. Parker Nelson missed a day due to a fractured collarbone. The room features a tree and gifts being made for parents. Eighth grade studies mortgages and seventh grade studies commissions.

Cantata The Worlds Redeemer Presented by 74 Voices

About 500 people filled Seyfang hall Sunday evening to hear The worlds Redeemer cantata sung by 74 voices under Lulu B Slo cumb. The well regarded performance drew one of the halls largest crowds and left attendees pleased with the creditable presentation.

Dr Hahn and family return to United States

Dr y N Hahn wife and child arrived in the United States on December 11 after a two year stay in Vienna where he was in school. They plan a brief visit in Omaha and Fremont and will later settle in Chicago.

Returns from Omaha Ray Goding Resumes Schooling After Hospital Stay

Ray Goding returned from Omaha last Friday after weeks in a hospital following a major operation. He appears greatly benefitted and has resumed his schooling after a courageous eighteen month battle to regain health following the July 1, 1932 accident.

Water District Petition For $400000 Project In Three Counties

Water commissioner R. H Illits has acted on petitions to organize the Blue Creek Public Power and Irrigation district. The plan would construct a $400,000 facility in Morrill Garden and Keith counties to supply extra water to five ditches and provide electric current for Lewellen and surrounding areas.

Potter Residents Enjoy Free Lights This Christmas

Potter residents enjoy free electric service from December 20 to January 2, as meters were read December 20 and current will be supplied free in residential areas through January 2. The offer excludes business establishments and aims to beautify the city during the holidays.

The Lutheran and Methodist Sunday schools plan Christmas programs this Sunday. Lutheran event in the afternoon at 2 includes a program tree and a short sermon by Rev Kahse. Methodist event in the evening at 7:30 features musical numbers by the youngsters, a tree and treats. Public invited.

Junior class play The Copperhead at Leyfang Hall

Comments were favorable for the junior class production The Copperhead presented at Leyfang hall last Friday under supervisor Josephine Johnson. Students performed well and the play reached a successful climax with between 45 and 50 dollars taken at the door.

Auxiliary Meeting for Christmas Gift Exchange

The Auxiliary will meet next Wednesday December 27 at the home of Mrs Irene Hite with Mrs Mildred Arnell assisting. Each attendee should bring an inexpensive gift for a Christmas exchange. Everyone is urged to attend.
