Potter residential customers receive unlimited electricity this month with the bill equal to November’s charge. The offer applies to homes, not businesses, and mirrors prior Christmas light incentives. The town promotes festive lighting, a large main square tree, and four street streamers with fifty bulbs each to boost holiday spirit.
Dr. W. T. Kahse, pastor, notes no services this Sunday at First Lutheran Church. The next service will be on Sunday the 15th at the usual hour.
Pastor Co R Tanner invites attendance at morning and evening worship next Sunday with a children’s choir, marking the 400th anniversary of the English Bible. The China Clipper, first of the giant seaplanes in service to carry mail and passengers across the Pacific, completed its maiden voyage from Alameda California to Manila Philippines in 60 hours and 4 minutes. Crowds and naval aircraft saluted as a letter from President Roosevelt to Manuel Quezon was delivered on arrival. The time matched the Pan-American Airway Co. estimate within four minutes.

Twenty two Cheyenne County students attend the state university, a 22 percent rise from last year, with fourteen from Sidney, four from Lodge Pole, two from Dalton, and one each from Potter and Gurley. The list notes names, colleges, fraternities, activities, and ROTC roles for numerous students and highlights a cosmopolitan student body including foreign nationals.
John Wehrer of Norfolk is in Madison county jail serving a 30 day sentence at hand labor for buying a glass of beer and giving it to a minor in a Norfolk beer parlor. He pleaded not guilty but was convicted in Police Judge P M Barrett's court. Norfolk police announced warrants for several youths who had falsified their age when purchasing alcohol.
Corn arrivals at local elevators are brisk this week with generally excellent quality. Moisture ranges from 17 to 25 percent per Lee Hagemeister of Wm Hagemeister elevator, price quoted 55 cents but many buyers pay as low as 48 cents due to moisture.
Burton Travis suffered a severe leg injury when his saddle horse was struck by a hit and run driver crossing the bridge west of Bushnell. He reached the Gallentine home for aid and was later taken home.
The high school orchestra practiced selections for the junior class play on Thursday despite recent losses and instrument changes. New members Gayland Reetz trumpet and Keith Schwartz drums join the ensemble, with instrument switches noted for Byron Johnson Richard Shea Kinley Heimer. A beginners group of a dozen aims to perform public pieces soon. Meanwhile Christmas songs feature in music classes and fifth and sixth graders show strong honor roll results, with several absences noted. Junior high held class meetings for Christmas parties as seven seventh graders and two eighth graders were dismissed for the honor roll.
The six week period ending November 22 recorded attendance at 9410 percent of enrollment, just above the 93 to 94 percent average. Ninth grade led with 96.19 percent, followed by Eleventh 96.08, Twelfth 95.30, Seventh 95.29, and Tenth 91.48 percent. Students Marjorie Johnson Eldon Tanner Bruce Juelfs Donald Schwartz and Loren Fisher were given a half holiday for honor roll. Several visitors from other rooms visited Wednesday afternoon while our room was decorated for Christmas and a Christmas program was voted on along with a name drawing.
We were thankful for the vacation last week and list absentees Stan ley Juelfs Harold Slack and Jessie Mae Hughes. Honor roll names include Jeanne Hagemeister Eugene Stormberg Car ol Hicks third grade and Betty Lou Harms Shirley June Miller Thelma Mathewson second grade.
In a light schoolroom exchange, students joke about weather, study, and acts. The dialogue features Marvin, Paul, Donald, and others reacting to playful banter, with lines about whistling, kissing, exams, skating, and a pun on a male quartet.
The Potter Coyotes host Goodview in the season opener tonight with prelims at 7:15 and the main game at 8:00. The schedule includes Dec 6 Goodview and Dec 10 Broadwater, along with Jan 31 Sund and other dates. R A Babcock of Sidney reported as Potter caller Monday.
The Potter high school junior class staged The Night Owl on Thursday evening. Cast includes Patsy-Jeanne Nelson Win Wimple Richard Shea Ken Grant Daisy Linden Ann Wesley James Gray June Allen Jack Benton Mrs Karley George Karley and more, with sponsor support anticipated and audience response expected to be generous.
Death Valley, recently joined to the National Park system, opens to winter tourists via Union Pacific, with access from Crucero and Death Valley Junction by train and via Las Vegas by auto. The region covers about 2500 square miles, lies between Panamint and Funeral and Grapevine mountains, and offers Furnace Creek Inn with golf, pool, tennis, and lodging.
A string of Thanksgiving related trips and visits unfolds from Dix to Chadron and beyond. The North Platte Valley Associated Chambers of Commerce held its annual meeting in Torrington with 186 in attendance. Otto J. Prohs of Gering was elected president, Cross Shoemale of Torrington vice president, B. J. Seeger of Scottsbluff secretary, and Ra Wisner of Bayard treasurer. Governor Miller of Wyoming attended, and awards were given in a slogan contest. Mrs. Join VPiccmer of Torrington won first prize, a $1,000 cash option or $1,000 per year for five years. Peter C. Hunt, Wyoming secretary of state, proposed an extra inverse plate for all traffic violators as a mark of shame.
