The Community Club schedules a pep dinner and program at Wells Cafe next Wednesday at 7 00 p m with Dr W T Sloan in charge. Outside speakers are sought alongside local talent, and a musical program is planned. All farmers and townspeople, men and women, are urged to attend for a lively, productive meeting.
The Bear Cats play Thursday afternoon at the county fair against Sidney at 12 30 sharp to clear the schedule for the race program. Dalton meets Lorenzo and the winners advance to Friday's feature game.
A rainfall of 0.94 inches occurred in Potter County Tuesday afternoon from 4 to 6 o clock. The shower extended slightly north but was heaviest in the southern areas. The storm arrived without wind or lightning, though a strong electrical disturbance caused a direct lightning hit in Potter that knocked out lights briefly and damaged a few phones and fuses. exact strike point not determined.
Glenn Williams living five miles east of Potter recounts a rare rattlesnake spree. He killed seventeen in a setting and one more hours later, totaling nineteen. The Brownson news items this week carry the full account.
Mr and Mrs Jacob M Nelson and children express gratitude to friends and neighbors for acts of kindness shown during illness and after the death of their beloved baby boy Eugene Douglas.
The Dix community exhibit at the Kimball County Fair earned top honors, winning first prize and a $65 award. The prize money was designated for Dix Sunday school.
Mrs. Adolph Engstrom complains that a party known to have stolen her turkeys should return them without prosecution. She warns she will press charges if necessary and insists on no further discussion. An unrelated note advertises a contractor offering custom work at reasonable rates.
Potter Bear Cats shine in a 3 to 0 victory over Bunker Hill led by McGowan in stellar form striking out 14 and allowing two hits. Bales matched with six hits allowed as Potter capitalized on two costly errors by Hockerson. Meyer starred for Potter with three base hits, while Borscher and Closman added valuable hits as Potter improves with upcoming doubleheader at Lorenzo. John Larsen learns his daughter is seriously ill in Omaha and leaves for the hospital.
Word was received this week announcing the extension of the north route into Kirk with service starting September 16. The Kirk extension will give the country mail six times a week, weekday only, on a 60 mile route. Dewey Lovell, current north-route carrier, will operate the new Kirk line following community sponsorship and post office department approval.
Sunday school at 10 a.m. Morning worship at 11 a.m. Sermon titled A Christ Motivated Life. Evening service at 5 p.m. in Johnson's Grove. All are invited to attend.
The Potter schoolhouse doors swing open next Monday at nine o'clock for registration and enrollment, followed by afternoon dismissal and an official conference for teachers. Principal staff includes A Snocker and J L Fowler with a full teaching roster and caretaker A A Wagner. Nearby visitors include Asa Kenoyer family en route from Broken Bow to Dunsmuir, and Miss Ethel Leafdale of Hastings visiting locals.
A fall expansion doubles the Potter cemetery by adding a north addition of equal size to the current plots. A 50 foot road around both plots will ease processions and eliminate back lots, with a steel fence and pedestrian gates planned as funds allow. The new section adds about 120 lots, each holding six graves, potentially more than 700 graves if fully used. Existing graves number 128, many underutilized. Community support grows, with sales and a small village tax funding initial upkeep, though future needs may rely on lot owner contributions.
Last of drawings in Potter scheduled for next Saturday at 3 00 p m on the lot north of the Johnson store to avoid street traffic. Expected crowd will bring about 100 prizes including cash and merchandise with a grand prize drawn first and additional prizes donated by local businesses. The Potter community mourns the loss of two respected residents. Mable Florence MacAdam Herman of Greeley Colorado, 40, and Eugene Douglas Nelson, age 3 years 9 months, died within days of each other. Funeral services for Herman were held August 26 at Potter M E church with burial in Potter cemetery. Nelson’s services followed August 26 with interment beside his family in Potter.

The city of Broken Bow has filed suit to enjoin Western Public Service Company of Maryland and remove its poles and wires from city streets and alleys. The action follows voters’ refusal to grant a franchise after the company’s service under a franchise expired February 1930. Harry Smith, local manager, named as defendant in Custer County District Court Nebraska.
