Final tribute to Pioneer Citizen Frank Slama Sr.

Frank Slama Sr., 86, longtime Sidney resident and pioneer of the area, died August 14 1930 after a long illness. Born October 16 1844 in Dabris Bohemia he emigrated in 21 and married Mary Prusha. Survived by eight children in Nebraska Iowa Texas and Omaha. Funeral at Sidney Catholic church August 16 burial beside Mrs Slama. Slama Brothers express gratitude for support.

Bunkerhill Plays Next Sunday Bear Cats Clash

Bunkerhill faces the Bear Cats here next Sunday in a local game. Both teams recently slipped and seek a win to snap out of their misfortunes, promising a competitive matchup. The game starts at 2:39 p m with men and children admitted free.

Kimball County Fair Dates Announced This Year

The Kimball county fair will run Monday Tuesday and Wednesday August 25th 26th and 27th with a strong race program the Kimball band a parachute drop motorcycle and horse races daily a ball game and various exhibits. Organizers pledge a entertaining lineup and note previous fairs set high expectations.

Methodist Church Notes Pastor Troy Leads Sunday Services

Sunday school at 10 a m and morning worship at 11 a m feature a sermon titled A Christ Motivated Life. Vesper service at 5 p m in Johnson's grove. All are cordially invited.

Bear Cats Lose Ragged Game to Lodge Pole

Potter lost an ill played seven inning contest to Lodge Pole 9 to 6 on the local lot. McGowan struggled amid costly errors as Lodge Pole scored early and often. Closman pitched two scoreless innings, Potter leads over Dalton and Sidney for standings. Next Sunday the Bear Cats meet Bunkerhill on the home lot in a bid to show improved teamwork.

Four Leading Teams to Play at County Fair

The four top county league teams will compete at the Sidney county fair next week. Potter and Dalton are guaranteed entries, with the remaining two to be drawn from Bunkerhill Lorenzo and Sidney based on league results next Sunday.

Local Golf Club Sets Full Schedule Ahead

Potter Golf Club maps out a busy program over the next weeks with a best ball foursome match, a flag contest, and a club tournament beginning in September. Captains Dr. C. V. Johnson and N. S. Miller select teams, and a water melon feed awaits the victors. An invitation tournament closes the slate with nine hole qualifying and an 18 hole final, plus prizes. Claude Biggs serves as secretary as the course improves and interest rises.

Married in Sterling unites Audrey Wilson and Vernon Welsh

Audrey Wilson daughter of Mr and Mrs Harry Wilson and Vernon K Welsh were married in Sterling Colorado on Thursday August 7. Wilson, born and reared in Kimball, attended local schools. Welsh moved to Kimball from Ashland and has farmed in the county four years. They will live on a farm south of Kimball with friends offering congratulations.

Cheyenne County Fair Kicks Off August 26 At Sid ney

Cheyenne county fair, among western Nebraska’s best, opens next Tuesday August 26 and runs four days at the Sid ney fair grounds. A strong race program offers $2000 in prizes plus free entertainment, ball games with Potter Bear Cats and other top teams, bands, a carnival, and a fireworks display billed as the county’s greatest. Livestock and agricultural exhibits along with school machinery show a bigger, better fair year to date. Don’t miss your home county event.

Laura Route to Take in New Strip September 1s

A new northwest mail route will begin September 1, routed by Chas. Stanton. The carrier will travel east from this point to the road south of Grasmeere ranch then circle to include Storm berg Tencyck Easton Malone White and nearby farms before rejoining the highway near Thurston farm. The old route will be used in reverse.

Rains Delay Harvesting Across Regions In News Update

Scattered rains over the past two weeks benefited corn and unmatured crops but slowed wheat combining. Potters communities saw modest rainfall, while sections missed the downpour. Harvesting resumed Monday after weekend rains, with clear weather boosting hopes the rainy season may end. A Monday hailstorm caused localized damage in the north divide, the first reported in some time. With ten days of warm dry weather, most wheat in the area is expected to be harvested.

The Full-O-Pep Dairy club met at Virginia Thurston’s home with all members present. Mrs. Robertson chaired in her absence. Everett Nelson and Arvin Neilson named as demonstrators.
