The village board contracts Fairbanks Morse to overhaul and modernize a 75 horsepower diesel engine at the light plant for about $2000. New parts and rebored cylinders will be installed under expert supervision. The worn unit, in use 14 years, now wastes fuel and struggles to start, but after repairs it should handle loads nightly and on Sundays, easing the other two units.
Olivette Sloan, beloved Sidney Iowa kindergarten teacher, leaves after two years to lead first grade in Fort Collins Colorado. She cites better salary and proximity to home at Potter Nebraska, and requests release from her contract. Her rhythm band and generous community ties leave a void for Sidney patrons.

A storm Monday produced 0.44 inches of rain locally with hail and a ten mile span centered in the valley. East of the Point 0.40 inches fell while Kimball reported 1.19 inches with severe lightning striking two houses. Water spilled over the highway east of Kimball.
A meeting of all chairmen and as many committee members as can attend is set for next Wednesday evening August 16 at Potter State Bank. The gathering will finalize plans for the big celebration and attendance is urged.
Potter's 1939 edition of Potter Days promises extensive free entertainment with free acts, no gatekeeper, and a free drawing for merchandise worth 75 dollars. The event runs August 29 and 30, with rides and dances excluded from free access.
Pleasant View residents and neighbors spent a busy weekend visiting and hosting. Mr and Mrs Ben Hilpert and son Elmer with John Fiehler fished Friday at Kimball dam. Several families shared calls and Sunday gatherings at various homes, while Rev G H Boehnke traveled to Laramie and returned.
The Potter Nebraska village board met August 7 1939 for a regular session at the Potter Review office. Chairman Alfred Arnell and trustees including Slama Fiegenschuh Schwartz MacAdam were present along with Superintendent Hendee and Clerk Treasurer Stevens. A hearing was held on improving the 75 horsepower Fairbanks Morse diesel generator No 601698 and the board approved a resolution to accept the repair proposal and execute a contract with Fairbanks Morse Company. The motion to authorize purchase of 150 feet of Fabric Fire Hose from Sandy Hook Conn was approved.

Misses Maxine Wells and Catherine Wickhorst returned to their homes Friday after completing summer school at Chadron.
A town board session approved a lengthy list of claims for labor, fuel, supplies, and services. Items include gas and oil costs, electrical supplies, fire department support, tree watering, hydrant work, light poles, engine repairs, fuel oil, freight, and telephone charges. The motion to allow the claims passed unanimously. clerk-treasurer H Stevens attested and the board adjourned.
Bills printed for Floyd Sheets farm sale set for August 17, featuring eleven head of livestock, farm machinery, poultry, household goods, and sale of buildings including eight room residence, barn, windmill and tower. Auction to be cried by Col Joe P. Schwartz with Potter State Bank clerk. Lundy grounds served. Sheets family planning to move west.
Last week featured visits among Tulsa Oklahoma residents and neighboring towns with Mr and Mrs Harry Fisher of Tulsa joining Mrs Whitney and family for meals at multiple homes. Corvallis Oregon guest Rodney Bertramson traveled via Omaha and other families hosted guests through the week. A baby girl named Deanna Low was born to Mr and Mrs Hubert Herboldsheimer at Kimball hospital on Monday August 7.
In a August 4 letter from Cash Lawrence of Lincoln to a Potter friend, Ben Wagner a former Potter citizen is very ill and not expected to live. He suffered flu and pneumonia then a heart attack and is now afflicted with dropsy. It is understood he is in California.
Five more Sundays before conference and a full church schedule. Services are church school at 10, morning worship at 11, and a grove service at 5. Closing church books September 1 aims for a complete record. Kinley Herboldsheimer to fill the pulpit on Sunday morning August 20.
Mr and Mrs Ernie Salcow of Arborville Nebr visited Dix friends Wednesday night. Hugh McFadden and Grace Shackles wed last Thursday at Gerizy and live in Dix. Reuben Gunderson and family of Kimball visited Edna Killham Sunday. Several pairs traveled to Lincoln Denver and Scottsbluff for visits and schooling. funerals in Iowa affected Charles Christy. Employment trips west coast drew Herbert, Leo Scheele and Kenny Gunderson.
Sixteen locals headed for Denver on a school bus for the Post tournament. Passengers included Ed McGowan, Wim Goding, Earl Anderson, Chas Fisher, Rudy Dedic, Joe Fernquist, Claude Biggs, Ralph Merscheim, Alfred Arnell, Herb Stevens, Clifton Thurston, Clarence Johnson, Chas Smith, Hugo Harrison, Evan Stines, and Lloyd Juelfs. Also seen in Denver were D F Enevoldsen and family, John Clausen Jr., and Victor Johnson.
Mrs Einer Hermansen received a delightful birthday surprise last Friday evening as eleven ladies unexpectedly arrived to help celebrate her special day.
The Rosards, acrobats and funsters, will entertain Quincy Illinois crowds on both Potter Days. Advertised as America's funniest clown troupe they are expected to provide the best free entertainment yet. One full two hour show is planned for the 30th.
All school districts in Potter territory are invited to bring their exhibits to Potter Days. Submit at Leave 1 the Review office before August 29 or call Supt. A. B. Connell. Liberal prizes offered for all entries.
The Larkin bridge club gathered at Mrs Clyde Nelsons home Tuesday. Guests from Sidney included Mrs Newt Witters Mrs John Armistrong Mrs Roger Armstrong Mrs Walter Bar num Mrs Charles Richards Mrs Rose Morgan Mrs Henry Hargens Mrs Bob Dyke Mrs Ferne Gould and Mrs Anna Olson. Mrs Dave Raper of Kimball and Mrs R M Hendee of Potter attended. Mrs Raper won high score and Mrs Hendee was second high.
Public notice states the Village of Potter Cheyenne County Nebraska seeks to issue Refunding Bonds totaling 66500 to take up outstanding bonds from 1925 1927 and 1930 at 3 1 4 percent interest payable semiannually. Taxpayers may file objections with Village Clerk H Stevens by August 26 1939 during business hours in Potter.
