$10,000 Store For Probe

Hodges announces plans for a new $10,000 Hodges Cook Mercantile Co store to rise north of the present shop. The two story cement block building will house the retail business on the ground floor and offices above. Fred Dreyer of Salt Lake City will prepare plans and estimates, with work to start when conditions permit.

Nevada Marble and Stone Co presents an outstanding Pioche area marble sample at the Utah State Fair. Town Ordinances Discussed at Chamber Meeting

A public meeting in the Chamber of Commerce rooms drew few business men as several town ordinances were reviewed but no definite decisions made. The District Attorney is to handle drafting, no action yet. The Board of County Commissioners meets September 9 to review proposed ordinances.

Freudenthal Buys Main Street Building in Local Deal

E F Freudenthal completed a purchase making him owner of the Main street building opposite Lacour with Hang Thang as occupant. The price was 3000 dollars and tenants will vacate by the tenth. The house will close for a month for renovations. Thompson Opera House nears completion and will feature Denver circuit acts this winter. Ed Freudenthal and the Greenwoods visited Lyndon mines today.

M W Robbins of Salt Lake Hardware company reports down 107 feet with a drift eighty feet toward the ledge and expects ore rich in lead and silver with copper. District Court Session Set For Pioche In September

The regular session of the District Court will be held at Pioche starting September 16. The calendar will be called that day for trials without a jury. The Grand Jury will be called September 16 and the trial jury to answer September 23. Ten awaiting grand jury action. The term is expected to be busy criminally.

Labor Day will be Pioche’s first such celebration in years with sports planned but committees undecided. At 11 a.m. Caliente and Pioche baseball clubs meet to select players for potential National League involvement. Assessor Roeder has asked the Attorney General about patented mine assessments. Work on the Susan Duster is confined to sinking a winze on the uncovered ore body at the 300 foot level. All seems ready to ship ore once rail transportation from Pioche station is secured.

Sheriff Smith arrives from Caliente to testify for the State. He is held as a witness for the State amid prior witness-availability issues. Three Japs bound over on receiving stolen goods with railroad thefts at Caliente station, with F. R. McNamee as railroad attorney, hoping for conviction.
