A survey by Delhi Trustee candidates shows residents rate taxation and economy as top concerns with demand for lower taxes and spending cuts. They favor stronger police and fire protection and support a tough law and order stance, while merger proposals draw mixed views.
At the September Oak Hills Board meeting no action was taken on a CEF proposal to form a standing committee representing both public and nonpublic schools to ensure fair participation in education funding. Board members Winkler and Middlekamp opposed delaying until a new board is seated, citing potential lobbying concerns and the temporary nature of such committees.
Citizens For Educational Freedom laments Oak Hills Board of Education for not endorsing tax support for non public school children as urged by six Parish Councils. Specht notes the Sept. 15 meeting and says CEF will push for action, with parish reps set to report next week. Price calls for candidate views to be aired at parish meetings in October.
Seventeen local students advance among 121 Cincinnati semi finalists in the 1969 70 National Merit Scholarship Program. Western Hills high school entries include Gregory Beall Gail Bigelow John Grisham and John Runkle while Elder and St Xavier are represented by Michael Dink and Stephen Winter with addresses in Covedale Westwood Price Hill and Bridgetown. Finalists may win $1000 college scholarships funded by local businesses and industries and must take a follow up test to determine finalist status.
Oak Hills School District students who turn 16 by July 1 1970 may register for the fall driver education class at Oak Hills High. Registration for the fall classroom course is Monday Sept 29 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Classes run Tuesday and Wednesday evenings 7 to 9 starting Oct 7 with 18 meetings.
Charles A. Donovan, son of Mr and Mrs James R Donovan of 5030 Belleum Ave Covedale, is among nominees. Scholarship winners will be named April 30.
Delshire Elementary near Mt Alverno and Pedretti Roads in Delhi Township faces a delay beyond November 1 as Conrad Seyferth Construction finishes work. Oakdale Elementary near Bridgetown Mack may open Oct 18 20 if lunches are brought by students and kitchen work lags. Pro-tem funds of 500 go to the Hamilton County Joint Vocational School District. a planned honor for Elmer Ruehrwein is under consideration.
Ruth Bennett 929 Seibel Le plans to run for president of the Price Hill Civic Club the first time in its 54 year history. She will oppose incumbent Henry Raven 5694 Brandt Manor Dr with Mel Vogel to seek re election on Bennett's ticket.
Four candidates for the Cincinnati Board of Education are invited to address the Western Hills Civic Planning Council at 8 30 p m on Wednesday Oct 1 in the United Savings Assn building 4980 Glenway Ave The speakers Roger Ack Robert Brown Fremont Fisher and Charles Lindberg represent three citizen action groups The October meeting is sponsored by the Greater Price Hill Improvement Assn with Club President Gerald Lampe presiding The council invites public attendance The Civic Planning Council serves 25th year in 1970 with delegates from five area improvement associations
Delhi Township’s volunteer department, officially staffed by seven full-time firefighters plus 44 volunteers, operates two firehouses on Need Rd and Greenwell Ave with multiple pumpers ambulances and an aerial unit. Since 1934 the crew has built a strong community program funded by annual festivals, with Fire Prevention Week events set for October 5 parade and October 6 demonstrations at Del-Fair Shopping Center.
