Elder Ends Diamond Season Tied With La Salle For GCL Title

Elder Panthers split the Catholic League title after a 3-1 win over Purcell to finish 18-4 overall and 11-3 in the league. Junior Tim Burman pitched a three-hitter and drove in a run as Elder tied La Salle for the GCL crown.

Play Safe Week Proclaimed in Cincinnati 1970

Cincinnati Mayor Eugene P. Ruehlmann proclaims May 25-30 as Play Safe Week to launch the 1970 Play Safe campaign by the insurance industry. He cites safety as vital to prevent mishaps and economic hardship, and acknowledges sponsors including the Cincinnati Insurance Board the Casualty and Fire Association of Cincinnati and the Insurance Information Institute.

NRA Championships Set For Camp Perry

The National Rifle and Pistol Championships will be held at Camp Perry Ohio from July 29 to August 24 with titles awarded in high power pistol smallbore rifle. The NRA runs the event and two schools police and instructor junior are offered as part of the program. A World Series of Shooting includes Wimbledon and Leech Cup events. Last year drew over 2 000 entries and this year is expected to surpass that total. Frog season closed May 15 1970 and reopens June 15 1970 at 6 00 p m per District Five supervisor Thomas Fulton.

Elder high school golf team finished third in the district meet at Miami Whitewater with a 314 score, one stroke behind co-champion St. Xavier and three behind undefeated lead. Coach Don Buchanan eyes next spring as senior Captain Brad Gerdes and teammates Ron Hartoin and Rich Hartoin produced top scores.

Hartleb Named President of Camp Sunshine

David F. Hartleb a University of Cincinnati history instructor was elected president of Camp Sunshine Mentor Kentucky at a board vote. The camp serves Campbell County youths eight to 14 with several camping periods scheduled from June 25 to August 14 and is a United Appeal agency.
