West Hi Alumni Group Proposed At 40th Reunion

Arch D. McCartney proposed forming the West Hills High alumni association during a reunion of the 1929 graduating class marking 40 years since graduation. The event honored retiring longtime staff member Paul Nohr, who served since 1928 in multiple roles.

Krabach Proposes Guerley Road Upgrade for 1970 74

Cincinnati City Manager Richard L Krabach asks the council to add a 65000 improvement to the 1970 74 Capital Improvement Program to widen and realign Guerley Rd between Tuxworth and Sunset Aves. The plan also rounds a bad curve near Potters Field cemetery and lowers a hazardous vertical hump in front of 4726 Guerley Rd. Major Eugene P Ruehlmann and the Price Hill Civic Club urged widening after a crash that killed Kathleen Welch near the highway.

Rates May Drop For Delhi Township Residents

Delhi Township residents could see an average 26 cent monthly reduction on utility bills if the Ohio Public Utilities Commission grants Cincinnati Gas and Electric Co. lower residential rates for five townships. CG&E cites a petition after a summer request by the Hamilton County Association of Township Trustees and Clerks led by Elmer Hausfeld. five townships seek parity with municipal homeowners.

Civic Cub Revives Man of the Year Nominees List

The Price Hill Civic Club revives its Man of the Year awards for five categories to be announced by Howard Hillebrand and a committee including Cliff Steinke and John Handra. Nominations remain open with entries encouraged via The News or Hillebrand at 4631 Foley Rd. Finalists will be honored July 16 at the Ohio Pavilion on Coney Day after social games.

Delhi Dems to Install Club Officers at Meeting

Former Court of Domestic Relations Judge Paul George, candidate for Municipal Court, will install Delhi Democratic Club officers at the Delhi Administration Building on Foley Rd Tuesday at 8 30 p m. Mayor Invited To Address Delhi Civic Club

The Delhi Civic Club invites Cincinnati Mayor Eugene Ruehlmann to speak at its June 18 meeting about the proposed city county merger. The gathering at the Delhi Administration Building on Foley Rd starts at 7 30 PM with a film and a discussion by Delhi Fire Chief Rudy Kusar. All Delhi residents may attend.

Delhi Marine Major Wins Silver Star in Vietnam

Marine Maj. Jerome W. W. Brown, husband of Mildred Noble Brown of Delhi, earned the Silver Star for actions during a February ambush near Quang Tri. Three Marines died and a grenade sacrifice saved others. Brown, commanding officer of the Seventh Motor Transport Battalion, was later assigned to Hawaii after Vietnam service. They have five children.

Sutton To Succeed Havlovic At Western Hills High

Edwin C. Sutton Jr will become Western Hills High School principal next September succeeding Arthur J Havlovic who retires after 44 years in education. Sutton previously led Hughes High and Woodward Schwab junior high, with long Cincinnati service and a UC education. Havlovic ends 38 years in Cincinnati schools as Western Hills administrator amid regional growth and new campuses.

Lengthy Effort Is Justified Traffic Signal Installed

Price Hill residents had long sought a traffic signal at West Eighth Street and Enright Avenues. After years of petitions and hearings beginning in 1958, city officials approved the upgrade and construction proceeded with a foundation to be poured within days and the light expected to operate about two weeks later, despite earlier negative city responses and prior amber flashers.

One In Four Oak Hills Grads Share In 110 Awards

Oak Hills High School awarded 110 financial grants to 69 graduates from a 404 member class at commencement in the school stadium. The grants exceed last year’s 77 awards to 44 seniors and surpass the previous class size record of 364. First time awards include the Walter H. Bucher Scholarship for the University of Cincinnati.

Delshire Swim Club Damage Suspected Vandalism

Vandals scaled the Delshire Swim Club fence in Delhi Hills Thursday night causing heavy damage to umbrella tables picnic furniture and nets. Estimated loss about 500 with potential three day pool closure if creosote removal is needed. Police urged anyone with information to contact Joseph Weber.
