Budde Edges Elyria 1-0 In State Tournament Thriller

Wes Moore pitched 12 strikeouts and allowed three singles as Budde defeated Elyria 1-0 in twelve innings. Dennis Young lined a decisive single in the bottom of the 12th after Greg Grove stole second, sending Greg Grove home for the winning run.

West Hills Club Championship Decided Junior Wins Again

Jim Doyle Jr. won the Western Hills Club championship with rounds of 76 78 76 76 totaling 306, four under par, beating juniors K C Krug and Don Roettker who finished 310. Seniors Don Trautmann and Harry Franke ended 311 and 312. Mrs Juenling retained the women’s title, beating Mary Jane Bennet and Lou Gray. Diamond Tourney Opens August 14 at Schmidt Park

National Amateur Baseball Federation Sophomore Division tournament opens August 14 at Schmidt Field East End Cincinnati. Hosted by Cincinnati Recreation Commission and the David Frisch Foundation, about 12 teams compete four days through August 17. Teams from Detroit Akron Buffalo Pittsburgh Dayton Maryland Washington Toledo Louisville and two local clubs. Players 16 and under. Games at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Public welcome.

Metro Buick's Softball Team Wins ASA Tourney

The Metropolitan Buick Women's softball team claimed the ASA Slow Pitch Metro tournament title and earned a spot to represent Cincinnati at the 1969 National Tournament in Chattanooga Tennessee over Labor Day weekend. They defeated Burger Beer 1 0 and 3 1 in a twin bill. The Metros allowed an average of two runs per game across six contests. Notable players from Western Hills include Jackie Herzner Joan McGannon Carol Weiss Kathy Walz and Gene Lenzer. They invite local boys 16 and under to practice at Bridgetown Junior High on Aug 17 and Aug 24 from 2 to 4 pm with Midland Guardian Acceptance Co sponsorship. Arrow Express Bus Schedule for Bengals Games 1969

Arrow Express buses will operate to all Cincinnati Bengals football games for the 1969 season. Route No 1 departs Western Hills Shopping Center at Work Rd and Glenway Ave 7 10 p.m on Saturday games and 12 40 p.m on Sunday games. Free parking at the center reduces traffic, Nippert Stadium has limited space. Round trip fare is 1 50 with 80 cents for the return trip.

Schere Signs To Play With Montreal Expos

Western Hills star Mike Scherer of Elder High School and Bentley Post signed with the Montreal Expos organization. The 18 year old pitcher, who went 10-0 for Bentley American Legion this summer, will join the Expos next spring after being signed by area scout Ralph Buzz Boyle.

Entry Forms For WH NET Tourney Open Tennis Opens Friday

Entry forms for the first annual Queen City Open Tennis Tournament are now available. The event opens Friday September 5 at Western Hills courts in Cincinnati with divisions for juniors, men and women singles and doubles, mixed doubles, and senior age groups. Federal Color Nine Finishes Runner Up In AABC World Series

The Federal Color Cardinals Class B Muni baseball team returned to Cincinnati with the runners-up trophy from the AABC Mickey Mantle World Series in Dallas. They lost 3-0 to the Dallas Giants in the final, after beating Knoxville 9-3 earlier and eliminating Los Angeles 5-3. Tim Burman of Elder High provided a standout three hit performance, while Jim Bierman of Roger Bacon earned a 9-4 record with 12 strikeouts. The squad finished 65 wins and seven losses.
