Priest Reported Recipient in Heart Transplant

Paris based AP reports Broussais Hospital performed a human heart transplant but officials deny knowledge of the operation. Unconfirmed word cites a 45 year old Roman Catholic priest as recipient and a 39 year old donor who had been dead 48 hours.

Auto door thief strikes in Butte

A 1959-model car owned by Mrs. Lillian Gregier at 2520 S Montana was targeted by a highly specialized thief who stole the right rear door. Police note car thefts are rising with wheels hubcaps and doors being lifted.

Violence Averted in Panama Voting

Thousands of Panamanians voted in a peaceful election for president and 42 assembly seats amid earlier violence in March. The race featured Arnulfo Arias, David Samudio, and Antonio Gonzalez Revilla with Arias favored by a five party coalition. Interior voting began late but orderly turnout was reported in the interior.

Butte School District to act on demolition bids and bonds

Trustees of Butte School Dist. 1 will meet Monday at 5 p.m to consider bids to demolish buildings 510 514 S Wyoming beside the new vocational tech school. They will also act on bids for typewriters and office equipment for the vo tech school. A second meeting Thursday at 8 p.m will consider selling district bonds totaling 1 196 790 including amortization or series bonds with amortization as first choice. The bond issue funds an elementary school for 500 pupils six classrooms West Junior High work and vo tech upgrades.

Viet Cong pressed the Saigon offensive into a second week with attacks on two northern bridges and a holdout near a Y shaped bridge to the Mekong Delta. U S air strikes pounded the area as allied casualties and enemy deaths mounted. bridges remained critical links despite damage.

Florida snake handler bitten by cobra during venom milking

Bill Haast, director of the Miami Serpentarium, was bitten by a 51 inch Thai cobra in front of about 60 tourists. He was hospitalized in guarded condition after receiving 70 cc of antivenom. this was his 44th cobra bite and 104th overall snakebite.
