Butte Juvenile Escapes Jail Then Recaptured
A 17 year old Butte youth fled Silver Bow county jail during a TV watch break in the radio room. He was recaptured Sunday by Butte police on Colorado Street after a tip. He allegedly overpowered a jailer and helped an accomplice bring in hacksaw blades. The fugitive had earlier been arrested in a April 24 burglary case.

Ex-Senator Keeley of Deer Lodge dies at 78
William E. Keeley, former Montana state senator and noted authority on land and water law, died at his home in Deer Lodge. He was 78, would have been 79 in two weeks, and had practiced law for 55 years. Services are planned Wednesday at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery. Keeley held many public posts, including acting governor, Senate president pro tem, and minority and majority floor leader. He was born May 20, 1884, in Crookston Minnesota, and earned law degrees from Minnesota and North Dakota. He practiced in Deer Lodge starting 1910 and served as city attorney, county attorney, state representative, and state senator until 1949, later arguing land and water rights in state and federal courts. He received a 30-year Montana Bar pin in 1960.

200 Feared Dead In Ferry Sinking
In Maghagh a, United Arab Republic authorities fear more than 200 drowned after an overcrowded ferry capsized on the Nile Saturday. Initial tolls rose from about 113 to 118 unaccounted and 92 bodies found. 10 passengers escaped from the 80 capacity boat as cranes awaited to lift the vessel.

Co-Pilot Alive as Bombers Collide Over Yellowstone Fight
A KC-135 tanker and a B47 bomber collided Friday night near Yellowstone Park. Co-pilot Capt Bruce A Chapman, 33, survived and was flown to Mountain Home AFB for medical care. Two crew members on the bomber were found dead in the wreckage. the fate of the remaining crewman was not immediately known.

Two Men With Arsenal of Guns Jailed in Butte
Wesley Rozema and Eugene R. O'Shea, both in their early thirties and from Chicago, were arrested in a Butte hotel room with a loaded 38 caliber pistol a loaded derringer and 16 other small weapons. FBI and local police began questioning them about criminal activity over the past weeks and possible counterfeit payroll check schemes and car thefts.

A Sunday morning crash near St. Xavier killed Bernardine Tobacco and Sylvia Iron, two Crow Nation women, as Montana toll rose to 68. The car left Secondary 313 and overturned in an irrigation ditch at about 5 am. Iron and Tobacco were the only occupants. Tobacco drove, and Iron was injured.

55 Die As Air Afrique DC6 Crashes On Mount Cameroon
Wreckage of an Air Afrique four engine DC6 was found on Mount Cameroon after a Saturday takeoff crash. 55 aboard—48 passengers and 7 crew—perished, with no survivors. The victims were African or European, including Bertrand Dahnon, newly named secretary general of the African and Malagasy Union. The mountain has witnessed prior fatal crashes in 1945 and 1950 involving military and Air France aircraft. Air Afrique is owned by Monrovia group states in West Africa.

Young Cyclist Hurt by Car in City Collision
Michael Williams 11 was admitted to Silver Bow General Hospital after a car bicycle crash at Front and Atlantic shortly after noon Sunday. Police say he suffered a broken leg and other injuries when his bike collided with an auto driven by 18 year old Glen Ross of 2701 Nettie. The boy lives with his parents Mr and Mrs James Bray at 1213 Farrell.
