Dr. Gerald A. Diettert Elected Montana Heart Association President

Dr. Gerald A. Diettert of Missoula became president of the Montana Heart Association at the annual meeting. He succeeds Robert M. Waters of Billings. Other officers include Thomas H. Mahon of Helena as president elect and Neil O. Bolstad of Great Falls as treasurer. The meeting featured talks by Dr. Donal R. Sparkman of the University of Washington and others, plus awards to Waters and Audrey Rand.

Rockefeller Re marries in secret at Pocantico Hills

Butte Home and Sports Show Opens With Noted Marksman Frye

The Butte Home and Sports Show runs Friday to Sunday at the Civic Center with Thomas R. Frye, America's premier exhibition shooter, as a featured act. Frye will draw profiles with a Nylon .22 rifle and exhibit the XP 100 221 caliber pistol, while the event also highlights $500,000 in exhibits, $1,000 in prizes, and diverse home and outdoor displays. Doors open 6 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday and Sunday.

Weather Outlook For Butte And Western Mountain Areas

Mostly cloudy with occasional snow showers through Monday. Highs around 50s to 60s and lows in the 30s. West of divide, slightly warmer on Sunday with 30s to 40s for lows. Mountains see scattered showers, lower elevations also affected. The table notes 12 hour maximums ending 5 p.m. Saturday for precipitation and temperatures.

UPI report says a U.S. Navy task force with combat ready Marines neared Port au Prince within 30 miles as Dominican forces mass along the Haiti border. The Boxer carrier led the move after leaving alert position, with another amphibious force nearby in Puerto Rico ready to protect American citizens. Dominican officials warned of swift action if order fails, while Haiti imposes a nine hour curfew and martial law to quell violence.

Weather halts search for missing B47 bomber near Yellowstone

Thunder showers and 40 knot surface winds forced cancellation of the search for the Mountain Home AFB B47 SAC bomber near the Wyoming border. Col Norman Happel said real strike weather stopped the effort about 3 p.m. MST, grounding about eight planes while a new convoy of 50 search and maintenance personnel moved in to resume Sunday.

140 Egyptians Drown as Nile Ferry Capsizes

In Maghagha Upper Egypt a crowded Nile ferry carrying about 150 passengers capsized. Some 140 people are believed dead, with 51 bodies recovered so far and 10 escaping. The boat, built for 80, was returning visitors from Bairam to relatives' graves, with exact counts pending rescue completion.

Montana Mines to Bestow 5 Degrees at 63rd Commencement

Picard named new Civil Defense director in county
