Spectacle opens Saturday night in Treasure State Jubilee

The Treasure State Jubilee spectacle Bullion Bandits and Builders features 1000 performers in authentic period costumes. Work on outdoor stage settings and effects is near completion as tickets go on sale at the Chamber of Commerce with exchanges for reserved seats required. A heavy rush to buy tickets was reported and performances run Saturday through Tuesday at the Butte high school stadium.

Senate approves relief bill with additional WPA funding

The Senate passed the administration relief bill with added appropriations of 73.3 million dollars, raising total to 1.8083 billion. The vote was 54 to 9 after debate, reducing certain WPA rules and expanding Farm Security, National Youth, and farm refinancing funds. The measure designates 1.477 billion for WPA, 173 million for FSA, and 123 million for NYA, with a continued emphasis on theater and arts projects under limits.

Britain Moves to Settle Tientsin Quarrel and Naval Pact

The Associated Press reports Britain aims to settle the Tientsin dispute by a Tokyo conference and offers to negotiate a new naval agreement with Germany. Field agencies have recommended approval of the Divide Wisdom Gibbons pass highway in a report to Washington. W H Lynch district engineer of the Bureau of Public Roads said he expects favorable action soon. Big Hole basin residents have long sought a modern highway into the region. He told Mrs Lucy G Hughes of Wise River that he had received her letter seeking information.

Washington June 28 Administrations leaders in Congress watched their large monetary bill falter amid concerns it would lose executive powers over exchange and currency if not passed by Friday midnight. While the relief and farm bills moved forward the monetary measure faced sharp opposition from East hard money Republicans and West silver Democrats as the controversy over devaluing the dollar stalled action.

Medical Association head to speak at doctors banquet

About 150 doctors registered for the four day Montana State Medical Association convention which opened yesterday in Butte. Dr. Rock Sleyster of Wauwatosa Wisconsin president of the American Medical Association will address the state banquet tonight at the Finlen hotel on Medical Problems of the Day. The convention features technical lectures by five Washington School of Medicine staff and discussions by Montana members.

Treasury Urges Securities Tax Break Reform

The Treasury urged Congress to ease the tax-exempt securities limit and high surtaxes on large incomes to free capital for industrial expansion. Undersecretary John W. Hanes told the House Ways and Means Committee that the current regime halts investment and urged public hearings on prohibiting future tax-free securities issuance.

Flying troupe members confer on Butte air show

Three members of Tex Rankin’s famed stunt unit visited Butte to meet with the local committee led by Al Wilkinson. Rankin’s Southern Air Aces, Inc. will bring 23 performers and seven aircraft to the Treasure State Jubilee air show July 8 and 9, promising a major aerial exhibition. Rankin arrives next week to perform low altitude and high speed stunts.
