Italian airliner makes emergency landing near Damascus

An Alitalia DC8 with 104 aboard landed safely near Damascus after rocket fire tore a wing fuel tank and knocked out an engine during volatile clashes between Israeli and Syrian forces over the Golan Heights. Pilot Capt. Giorgio Pizzo reported fuel spurting and shutting down one engine.

Mayor considers buying two downtown buildings for city use

Mayor Mike Micone said the city may buy the old Metals Bank Building at Park and Main for a future City Hall and the Great Northern structure at 640 S. Arizona. He also floated using the old railway station as a new fire station and possibly renting jail space from the county.

Butte eyes two offers for new city hall site

The Montana Standard reports aldermen opened talks Thursday on two bids to convert a building into city hall. Burlington Northern offers the old Great Northern station for 1, First Metals Band offers the Park and Main building for 9000. City would assume tax arrears and may needed bond funds after cost estimates. An inspector will evaluate both sites as the current hall near condemnation prompts switch.

Butte Public Library to reopen after 50 50 funding dispute

County Commissioner Earl Holman delivered a 22390.89 dollar payment to Mayor Mike Micone to settle the library funding dispute. Micone noted the county budgeted 24000 for library costs and called a 50 percent county share fair as about half the users live outside the city. A meeting to discuss future budget matters is requested for June 30.
