Former Senator Fined for Taking Vote Box
WIBAUX Mont A former Democratic Montana state senator W L Hammond was fined 1000 after pleading guilty to taking a ballot box used in a school bond election. Judge Foss imposed the sentence in Wibaux County District Court. Hammond claimed his temper caused the act and said ballots were not touched. A new election was planned as more names appeared on rolls with initials instead of full names.

Second in Malta Blast Is Dead
An explosion and fire at a Malta service station killed a second person. Mervin Bishop, 20, died in a Malta hospital after the blast Monday morning. Donald Freestone, 21, also fatally burned, was Malta’s light heavyweight amateur boxing champion. Station operator L R Morran pleaded innocent to arson and was released on a $5,000 bond as the case moves to district court. Investigators say the blaze was caused by gas ignition. Morran’s charge stems from the United States Highway 2 station incident. Bishop was the son of Mr and Mrs Harry Bishop.

Must Stand Trial in Murder of Wife, 3 Children
McALESTER Okla P-A District Court jury found Dr Ben T Galbraith sane and capable of standing trial for murder in the deaths of his wife and three children. The all male jury returned the unanimous verdict after deliberating an hour and 44 minutes following four days of testimony and closing arguments. Dr Galbraith, 34 year old heart specialist, was not present in the courtroom at the verdict. He had sat through the testimony concerning his sanity with a little emotion.
