A Kalispell planning group sets a July 10 event for 15 000 attendees to mark the dam project. They approve orders totaling 4 060 pounds of beef 15 000 buns 40 jars of mustard 400 pounds of toffee 2 quarts of cream 150 pounds of sugar and 500 quarts of ice cream.
The Montana Supreme Court granted Missoula officials a writ ordering reinstatement of 66.25 dollars in a parking meter case and ordered Judge Besancon to show cause why defense costs were not reinstated. The decision overturns a lower court ruling favoring plaintiffs challenging city meters operation. A separate note reports two CAA officials escaping injury after a forced landing near Coeur d Alene Idaho.
Everett Booth, an Indian man aged 38, was indicted by a Helena grand jury on two counts of murder. He is held for federal court in Glasgow after being taken into custody following the March 21 shooting of Dale Monson, the Poplar elevator manager, near government land. The coroner’s jury previously deemed Booth the slayer and the case was turned over to the FBI.
Delegates to the twenty sixth annual Veterans of Foreign Wars encampment gathered in Missoula June 17 for a memorial service and a pajama parade plus street dance. Curtis Beatty of Glasgow was elected state commander with officers Willam Spady Great Falls Wilbur Hammond Wibaux Ray Weaver Kalspell Robert R Merrill Great Falls and John Vigeant Butte. Commander Eleanor Grant Rigby urged delegates at the afternoon session to value a strong Army Navy and Air Force to ensure national security.

U S Army authorities report 18 anti Communist refugees and four crew aboard a Soviet Romanian Airlines flight that landed at Salzburg airport on Thursday. The refugees are described as anti Communist. A Rome radio station blast sent about 100 people overcome by ammonia fumes the same day.
Governor Bam C. Ford urged Montana high school girls at Girls' State Democracy School to resist totalitarianism and defend democracy. He praised youths for understanding government and outlined executive legislative and judiciary duties. Delegates Jamie Brennan and Karl Hiermstad were named. alternates were Baimille Cottam and Edna Mae Ferry as Butte Girls' State concluded Friday.
Chester L. Harkness of Missoula was named grand master at the Montana grand lodge of Odd Fellows closing sessions. Other officers named include N. L. Jennings of Glasgow as deputy grand master, Wayne Dickson of Big Sandy as grand warden, W. H. Johns of Butte as grand secretary, and J. Lew Gracy of Bozeman as grand treasurer. Board of directors for the Montana IGOR home at Helena also announced: Ervin Belos Chester of Helena, J. P. Wills of Butte, and W. E. Willey of Kalispell.
Montane citizens committee on education will hold a two day meeting on the state university campus in Missoula Monday and Tuesday. Chairman Paul Harlow of Thompson Falls said four out of state educators attending the university’s summer session will serve as consultants. The group seeks to learn how educators address current educational problems.
