Spanish War Veterans Open Sessions in Helena Encampment

United Spanish war veterans auxiliary and ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic opened their Montana encampment in Helena. The 40th anniversary of the Spanish American War will be observed with sessions through Wednesday. Grigsby’s Rough Riders and the First Montana Volunteer Cavalry join in a joint reunion. Helena Postmaster J. R. Wine will give the Plaiday address Monday, with Maj. William A. Curtis of St Paul and Col. Barney Rankin of Bozeman among speakers.

Helena June reports Montana guardsmen from the 16th regimental combat team arrive to open a postwar training encampment at Fort Harrison for about 700 men through June 27. The 186th fighter squadron encampment proceeds at Great Falls, using non-tent housing built for the army special service force. Brig. Gen. G. H. Woman's Body Found After Flood Near Pueblo

Pueblo Calo June 15 an unidentified woman drowned in a flash flood and was recovered tonight in a creek ten miles west of the city. The coroner said she may be the mother of a ten day old baby found on the creek bank beside a stalled pickup. The sheriff suggested she may have saved the child before drowning.

In Spokane a man named Ole A. Stenberg wandered downtown Sunday carrying seven sticks of dynamite and a detonating cap. Police used a bartender to slip a Mickey Finn into his drink, disabling the charges and removing the explosives. He was booked on a felony count for endangering with explosives.

Elks Flag Day Rites Held With New Uniforms

In Dillon on June 1 the Elks Lodge will conduct annual flag day exercises at 7:30 pm on the depot lawn with a backup plan at the high school auditorium if rain. A parade forms at city hall with the drum and bugle corps leading, and Dean Chaffin of Bozeman delivers the address.

Butte Girl Shot in Right Foot During Weekend Accidents

Three Butte children were injured near their homes over the weekend. Eleven year old Ann Thomas was accidentally shot in the right foot with a 22 caliber rifle while neighbor boys target practiced Sunday evening and admitted to Murray hospital. Anita Johnson 15 was bitten on the left leg by a dog while playing on East Park Street and taken to St James hospital. Patsy Carlen nine sustained a lower lip laceration after a bicycle fall and was treated at St James hospital with three stitches.

Country Club Party Opens Dillon Season Charm

Dillon June 1. A well attended Dillon Country Club party kicked off the 1948 social season attracting about 75 members. The evening featured dancing and cards with a late midnight bed. Car Overturns on Meaderville Highway Involving Three

Three Butte residents escaped serious injury after a car overturned on the J Butte Meaderville highway near Meaderville Avenue station. Driver Galen Reynolds, 1117 Mast, suffered a head bruise. deputies report a possible steering rod failure. Reynolds went to St Daniels hospital for examination and release.
