President Truman signed a law making women regular members of the Army Navy and Air Force ending reserve status for WACS and WAVES. Plans for WAFs in the Air Force with a cap of 4000 enlisted 300 officers and 40 warrants. Recruiting to begin Sept. 1 and a WAF training center in San Antonio. RFC Shifts Focus to New Housing by FHA Insured Deals
Chaquetta of Helena Loan Agency within Reconstruction Finance Corp announces RFC plans to concentrate secondary mortgage market activities of the Federal National Mortgage Association on new housing. New FHA insured mortgage purchases will only occur where applications and purchase commitments were issued before construction began and show no other market is available. Previously the association bought mortgages under Section 207 and 608 for multiple unit housing and issued commitments for Section 203 and 403 during construction or after completion if the mortgage existed for no more than a year.
