The Senate nears adjournment with contentious tariff and silver debates, while President Roosevelt resists Democratic pressure to drop the Wagner labor disputes and housing bills. A soldier bonus bill moves toward a Senate vote, backed by Chairman Harrison despite Finance Committee disapproval.
Federal mediator R. C. Jacobson announced a conference today with Frank C. Walker of the National Emergency Relief Council in Butte. He may meet Governor Frank H. Cooney James Graham of the Montana Federation of Labor and Miles Romney NRA board chair to resolve labor disputes in Butte Anaconda and Great Falls.
Henry P. Fletcher of Pennsylvania was elected national party chairman to steer a new reform program. He succeeds Everett Sanders after his resignation and heads to Chicago to join the executive committee. The GOP aims to stress social reforms and reduce government domination while seeking electoral gains.
Group five of the Montana Bankers association will meet in Lewistown for its annual conference this Saturday. The group, led by president Brooke Hartman, spans 11 counties and 26 banks.
T R Schoenborn, chosen to supervise the relief administration s cattle buying program in emergency drought counties, leaves for Miles City to establish headquarters. He is technical livestock adviser to the state relief admin and will work with J C Taylor as counties move to emergency status.
Denver police say Belle Newton, 30, wife of an auto salesman and former sweetheart of detective J. S. Turner, 46, shot him with his own gun after a quarrel. She confessed after hours of questioning. Turner's body was found near Arvada with a head wound. Police traced her from a farmer's tip and found her husband at home.
Testimony on alleged abuse, threats, and property destruction was offered in the Gale case as defense cites bias against hill workers. Defense witnesses included W B Daly and James J Carrigan while union officers testified for the state. The judge indicated the state has until Monday to file, with continued coverage on Page 2.
Montana forecast shows unsettled conditions Thursday with showers in the southern portion and warmer readings in the west. Friday brings generally fair skies and further warming in the east.
The South Side Progressive club urged the city council to rescind the consolidation that closed the Harrison avenue fire station. A motion to reconsider failed for lack of a second, and the matter was sent to the fire and water committee for June 20 report.

Frank C. Walker executive director of the national emergency council returned to Butte to receive Montana’s Doctor of Laws Honoris Causa from the Montana School of Mines. He praised President Roosevelt, noted broad national support, and hinted at a possible Montana visit this summer.
In New York Brooklyn homicide court two weather-beaten men faced off regarding a Yukon Hills killing. Blueberry Tom Jensen seeks to prove he did not murder Sweet Marie Schmidt and Fiddler John Heldenbird as publicized in the Yukon drama. The case awaits further proceedings.

In Helena Montana the rush of candidates for governor and lieutenant governor formed a legal tangle as petitions await secretary of state acceptance. Some will seek mandamus from the state supreme court to force petition acceptance and pursue rulings.
Rainy conditions delivered 1.01 inches of precipitation in 24 hours ending last evening, raising June total to 2.27 inches as observers report. A prolonged overnight and afternoon downpour disrupted travel yet all air-mail trips through Butte were completed. Weather extends across Deer Lodge forest area with widespread rainfall.
Senator Tydings introduced a senate resolution authorizing negotiations to fund war debts owed by European nations in goods or services under specific conditions. The plan would authorize Roosevelt to analyze the 12 billion dollar debt, assess contracts and use, and negotiate new funding agreements based on debt type and debtor ability to pay. Montana Representative Ayers urged building many small reservoirs to combat drought across the Northwestern states. He said Montana has an engineering setup ready but no money to start. Hopkins backed the plan and noted funds already allotted may be used for water prec.
