18 Sailors Rescued From Stormy Atlantic
An ice breaker and a fishing smack rescued 18 French sailors from two lifeboats as the 2350 ton freighter Douala sank 35 miles southeast of Burgeo Newfoundland. Lawrence A. Walker, 56, longtime Western Montana College of Education faculty member, died in his sleep Sunday from a heart attack. He joined the college staff in 1958 after nine years as director of training and Dillon public schools superintendent. Born October 15, 1907 in Arcadia Iowa, he moved with his family to Minnesota as a child. Funeral services will be at St James Episcopal Church with burial in Mountain View Cemetery.
