Hamilton Mont December 12 Sheriff J B Stokes is acquitted of murdering Corvallis schoolteacher Mrs Othel Severns by a district court jury on the first ballot after a nine day trial. A loud cheer erupted in the crowded courtroom as the verdict was announced. Judge W L Lord maintained order throughout the proceedings.
