Butte Plans Largest Warrant Call for December 20
City treasurer John L. Sullivan announced Butte will issue its largest warrant call to date on December 20 amounting to about 150000 dollars. Of this 125000 dollars comes from the general fund and 25000 dollars from the maintenance fund, driven by strong tax collections this year. Mail tax payments now incur penalties after November 30, pending final November tax recapitulation. After January 1, special improvement district bonds will be taken up in addition to the warrant call.

The city recorded a high of 42 and a low of 27 with 1.5 inches of snowfall, turning streets slushy and hindering both motorists and pedestrians while eastern areas were warmer than Butte. Street car service continued as officials noted intermittent precipitation but forecasts predicted fair weather ahead.

Opium Pipe Found Near Man's Body in Butte Room
Police say 73 year old Ben Cohen known as Yen shee Ben was found dead in a room at 70 East Park Street. A partially smoked opium pipe lay on the bed beside him. Coroner Mike Salot said the body had been dead at least an hour. A maid discovered the scene and investigators pursue whether an inquest is warranted. Cohen had lived in Butte for over 55 years.
