A broad push of temporary wage and hour agreements under the NRA extends to more than 2,000,000 workers across electric power gas canning construction and other industries. Auto steel oil and coal codes loom with hearings and stalemates over collective bargaining and production control.
Seven persons were injured in a head on collision on Meaderville Road near the old Blue Ox. Jimmy Gilmore and Everett Woodside drove separate cars. three in the Butte party required hospital care. The wreck blocked traffic for over half an hour as responders rushed to St. James hospital.
Gen Italo Balbo led the Rome air fleet back from America landing at Ostia near Rome after a 12 200 mile voyage from Lisbon. About 100 000 spectators cheered as Mussolini saluted and Balbo was promoted to air marshal amid jubilant scenes in the ancient capital.
President Roosevelt approves a lengthy list of state engineers enabling the Public Works Administration to act swiftly on funding applications for non federal projects nationwide. The emergency staff remains small as a few vacancies are filled, with engineers to aid state advisory boards in screening requests before they reach Washington. Montana's appointment will be announced later.
In Los Angeles, August 12, Bruce T. Moore shot bride Harriet Allen as she slept beside her husband of eight days, then killed himself. The couple had eloped to Santa Ana eight days earlier. Moore left a note leaving everything to his sister.

Lewistown, Aug 12. Judge Jack Briscoe, 63, assistant Fergus County attorney, former Tenth District judge and former Lewistown mayor, died today from heart trouble after a lingering illness. A Missouri native, he earlier served two terms as county attorney there before moving to Lewistown in 1914. He was named Tenth District judge by Governor Stewart and served until 1919, then retained at the election.

In Graceville Minnesota on August 12 six bandits robbed the First National Bank taking about $5,500. Twelve customers and employees were forced to the floor and one man was kicked in the mouth as he turned to view the incident.
William W. Farrell, 47, a county road worker in Bozeman, took poison and died after driving to county yards. A note to his wife read I can't stand it any longer and outlined burial instructions. Police said financial troubles were the likely cause.
