Progress of Soil Survey in Wake County Map to Aid Farmers
Engineers E B Derrick of the National Agriculture Department and J Perkins of the State Department lead soil survey work covering about 175 square miles of the county's 565. Field work should finish by mid September with data compiled by October first. Printing will take eight to nine months, with 2000 copies available to the public. The map will color every soil type of at least ten acres and include roads streams towns and railroads. A companion bulletin will advise fertilization and treatment for each soil type. Farmers can contact the State Department of Agriculture at Raleigh for analysis and instructions.

In Newton a trestle on the C and N W railroad caught fire Monday. Miss Haas, an elderly local resident, raised a red cloth to halt the approaching engine and saved the train from destruction. The damaged section burned away, but work crews replaced rails and timber and reopened the bridge after hours.
