Triple Murderer Laughs at Death Penalty Conviction in Memphis
J. Ed Baxter, charged with killing his father in law J. A. Smith, his wife’s mother, and brother in law, was convicted in Memphis after months of feigning insanity in Kentucky. The jury returned the life imprisonment verdict as Baxter laughed at the ruling and said he did not fear the electric chair. Victims included Oscar Smith, 16, shot when Baxter sought entry to the home where he was separated from his wife. Mrs Baxter witnessed the murders and later secured a divorce.
