German Forces Press On In Italy While Naval Forays Continue

German and Austro-Hungarian troops push to break the line in the Italian Alps as Alpini defenses slow their assault. France and Belgium see little action aside from outposts and duels. In the North Sea, German ships sink a British destroyer and several neutrals while two neutral merchant ships and a trawler are lost near the Tyne. The Russia Teutonic armistice runs December 17 to January 14, with negotiations to begin on signing.

Adam Latiker's bid to defend himself in bicycle theft case

Adam Latiker appeared before Judge W C Lemmond to represent himself in a theft of a bicycle case. Testimony from Will Garrett established break in and theft. Latiker cross examined with racially charged taunts and songs, suggesting a rough trial with minimal legal training.

Quiet Wedding at Maness Home Unites Green and Griffin

Miss Katherine Adelia Green became the bride of Mr. B Clegg Griffin at the Maness home on South Washington Street. The ceremony featured evergreen and white decor with Rev. C J Black of Wingate officiating. The couple left for a Florida wedding tour to Jacksonville Tampa and Southernland amid well wishes and gifts from family and friends.

German Forces Attack Convoy In North Sea

London reports a German assault on a Scotland to Norway convoy sinking one British, five neutral merchantmen, a British destroyer and four mine sweepers. Tonnage lost about 8 000 with 88 Scandinavians rescued and 10 British saved. Partridge sunk and Pelew disabled then to port. Four armed trawlers also struck in the attack.

Lloyd George warns against peace overtures to Prussia

Premier Lloyd George spoke in London on Friday condemning peace overtures while Prussia’s military spirit would be drunk with boastfulness. He urged continued sacrifice and warned Russia’s withdrawal would shift the war balance to the Allies. He tied America’s entry to Russia’s exit and urged a strong Allied front with a mobile army.

Community Christmas Drive Seeks Shared Gifts for Monroe

Monroe readers urged to donate food clothing toys shoes fuel and money for a community Christmas to aid those affected by war conditions. Contributions via the Red Cross room in the courthouse on Monday the 24th will be distributed by a designated committee with pastors assisting if needed.
