Oldest Union County Citizen Gaswell D Broom Dies
Mr Gaswell D Broom a longtime Union County resident died at his Monroe home on December 12 after ten months of illness and a life of service. Born September 8 1829 he moved from Wolfeville Ridge to Monroe after the war and worked as farmer merchant and bookkeeper. He served as treasurer of Central Sunday school for 56 years and was remembered as exact and prompt. He thrice married and survived by his third wife Ida Harkey and two sons. Funeral held at the Methodist church with a large list of pallbearers.

Threats on Gov Wilson Life Target Wilson in New Threat Letters

Charles Sprinkle was killed when 25 sticks of dynamite exploded as he reached a stump in a field near Crutchfield on the Southern between Winston-Salem and Elkin. Debris showed only a foot and part of a hand found miles from the blast while spectators watched.
