Man holed up in Memphis rooming house dies in raid
Adam J. Boehler, who held fifty policemen at bay for eight hours, was killed when detectives stormed his downtown rooming house. Fire from Boehler and investigators, aided by formaldehyde fumes, preceded the final assault. Several officers and witnesses were wounded. Boehler allegedly attacked his wife before the siege. The crisis ended with Boehler slain and Parsons gravely hurt. The case linked to a deadly confrontation in a central Memphis boarding house.

After the ceremony the couple went to Charlotte to visit the groom’s parents and will proceed to Wilmington where Mr Williams is in business. The couple are young with many friends in the county.

Death of Raymond Yarborough in Waxhaw Runaway Incident
Raymond Yarborough twenty year old son of E G Yarborough of Jackson township died after being thrown from a buggy near the Rone drug store in Waxhaw. The mule frightened by a lighted cigarette bolted injuring him. he died at seven or eight in the morning from internal injuries. He attended Rehobeth Church and is survived by his parents one brother and three sisters. The accident also caused a second runaway that unseated Dowd and Parley McNeeley who were nearby but unhurt.

In Re Rest, the Ladies of the Betterment Association held a spelling match to raise money for repainting the school building. Spellers paid ten cents per missed word, with several contestants dropping out as the challenge grew. Mrs. Ashcraft, widow of Maj. J. B. Ashcraft, dominated the event, spelling every word. the crowd quit without her losing a cent.
