Doctor Henry Smith Found Dead In Union County
Dr Henry Smith of Unionville was found dead three miles west of Unionville last Friday afternoon. A bottle of carbolic acid and cocaine were found nearby with no sign of struggle. Authorities suspect overwork and possible accidental overdose. The community mourned a devoted physician known for ministering to the needy. Memorial services were held at Presson cemetery with a large turnout. The 42 year old unmarried doctor was the son of the late James Smith of Olive Branch and brother of Robert Smith. A Red Cross Christmas seal drive urged locals to support disease prevention and relief efforts.

In Columbia last night two men, T. Hugh Melehan and William 8. Stewart, were killed when a car skidded on the Hyatt Park road near Mill thirty and rolled turtle into a ten foot gully. William Watson Theodore Bell and William Swaffield were seriously hurt. others assisted at the scene and later to local hospitals.

Quiet Wedding in Monroe for Medlin and Wager
Mr L H Medlin and Misa Edith Wager both of Monroe were wed on Thanksgiving evening at the bride’s brother J E Wager’s Renton Hill home. Dr J H Weaver officiated. They left for a visit to relatives in South Carolina and now live in the Hasty cottage near Gloucester Hotel. The couple have the best wishes of many friends. Lancaster News manager Adolphus J. Clark dies by suicide
Adolphus J. Clark a Lancaster businessman and longtime manager of The News died by gunshot in the presbyterian graveyard while reportedly in ill health. He was born near Raleigh about 60, educated at Furman University, and long served Lancaster as teacher, agent, and editor. The coroner ruled death self inflicted.

An elderly farmer living four miles from Monteo on the Morgan Mill road died suddenly last Wednesday afternoon while resting in his chair. He was sixty and described as healthy and upright. A funeral service was held at Union Grove Baptist church with Elder Heal officiating. He leaves a wife, two sons, and multiple daughters and brothers named in the record. George J. West Sr of Kinston produced 184.7 bushels on one acre at 19 cents per bushel to win top prize in the Boys Corn Club, a program of the USDA, North Carolina Department of Agriculture, and A and M College. Six hundred thirty five boys reported a total 3,800 bushels at an average cost of 47 cents. The largest yield by Richard Brook of Wayne County was not champion due to high cost. District prizes awarded include W. T. Blackwelder Concord at 206 bushels and Miss Ethelsmith Bridgeport at 75.7 bushels. costs ranged from 1.7 to 24.5 cents per bushel.
