The death of former North Carolina Governor Charles B. Aycock occurred when he collapsed while addressing the Alabama Educational Association in Birmingham. He died about ten oclock, after delivering a morning speech on universal education. The service and in state viewing drew large crowds in Raleigh with state officials and citizens paying tribute. his funeral followed at First Baptist Church. The obsequies featured remarks by Bishop Kilgo and other leaders praising Aycock for his devotion to education and public service.
Two Sparrows Point workers, Willis Haggan and Henry Smith, died within days of each other at John Hopkins Hospital after years of loyal friendship. Both men, about 25, entered the hospital together on the same day. Haggan with pneumonia and Smith with tuberculosis. They were briefly separated in the wards before pleading to be kept together, a wish granted until both succumbed Saturday night. Their bodies were kept at the hospital as they had no relatives.
