Indian Trail school closes with prize wins and student acts

Closing exercises under Principal Prof T J Huggins and assistants Miss Mabel Robinson and Miss Verdle Snyder featured student performances and a declamation and recital contest. Rev J S Snyder gave an address on Be good to yourself. Thos Shaw won the declamation medal and Miss Panthea Harkey won the recitation prize along with several students earning top averages and spelling prizes.

Community thanks for Monroe hospitality and church support

The Entertainment Committee expresses gratitude to the old residents of Monroe for hospitality shown to the Woman's Club meeting last week. They thank denominational sisters, pastors, especially Methodists, organist Mrs J F Laney and choir, local editors, the Mayor and aldermen, and all individuals who aided the event. Adj. Fire Destroys Home Losses Reported In Morning Blaze

A severe early morning fire consumed a residence near St B., destroying the Morgan family belongings. Mr Steve Morgan and relatives fled with minimal possessions as flames engulfed the cottage. With no water connection nearby the fire department could not save the house. The family escaped unharmed but suffered total loss of valuables and shelter.

Marriage of Mise Haris to Ned in Monroe Church

The marriage of Mise Haris to Ned Noah and Bertha Jemima Harris took place at Monroe Baptist Church after Wednesday service. Rev Craig officiated. the couple left for Charleston and other points. Best man was Mr Thomas Jenkins. bridesmaid Miss Wincey Harris. attendants Mr Robert Carnes and Miss Ada Foard. Mrs Annie Saunders played the wedding march.

Kitchin Club to be Formed in County

The Journal announces a meeting in the courthouse next Saturday about noon to form a Kitchin club. The group aims to organize Governor's friends to back his candidacy for the United States Senate. The Governor has many supporters in the county, and large membership is expected.
