About 18 000 children in Mobile city and county resumed classes this morning marking the fall term start. All public schools opened except the high school which moved to Barton academy building on Monday due to readiness issues. Traffic police warned drivers to observe an eight mile per hour school zone limit.
A naval court of inquiry at Lakehurst reviewed the aborted Shenandoah airship flight to the Midwest. Commander Lansdowne favored a September start to suit fairs and facilities, while Captain Steele supported an earlier launch despite forecasts. The panel found weather conditions and logistical issues influenced the decision, praising Lansdowne as capable yet noting the debate over timing and stops.
H. Lee alias J H Lee of Crichton taken to Bay Minette by Sheriff Ramsey Stewart after deputies arrested him at his Crichton home Tuesday. Copper valued at 300 dollars stolen from turpentine stills of J D Crosby and J M Raborn was recovered from a junk shop where Lee allegedly disposed of it. Lee is also wanted in Escambia county.
The forecast from the local weather bureau office predicts little cooling for Mobile with generally fair conditions tonight and Thursday. Yesterday’s high reached 98 degrees and today’s early estimates point to another same level.
The Ancient Order of Hibernians and the ladies auxiliary plan a Mobile state convention starting Saturday with state officers and delegates arriving. The Mobile mayor Harry T. Hartwell telegrammed manager Bert Niehoff of the Atlanta Southern Association team to say Mobile backs him to win the first Dixie series game against Jakey Atz's Fort Worth Panthers. Fort Worth arrived in Mobile late last night and fans welcomed Billy Mullen, Fort Worth’s third baseman, who hails from Mobile.
Ward Gebhardt faced contempt of court for refusing to appear in juvenile court to answer non support charges. Judge Frank Cof fin fined him $5 after officers brought him in. the non support count was dropped at the wife's request.
Chief Gus Rehm of Mobile will depart Sunday to attend the International Fire Chiefs meeting in Louisville starting Monday. R M Miller a local merchant reported to police that his Ford touring car was stolen yesterday afternoon while parked on Conception Street between St Louis and St Anthony. This marks the fourth theft attempt in four weeks in Hunchula.

County Highway Engineer James E. Shelton says the former bay shell road will be opened next week once the top surface of oyster shells is laid. Tuloca surrounds a 320 acre cornfield where Joseph Stemas, accused of slaying Sheriff Orville Litch of Marshall county, and Tuloca police chief John Leonard are believed to be hiding. Armed searchers aided by bloodhounds and a plane scoured the field after Stemas escaped a barricaded home. He fatally shot officers Monday night and is believed mentally deranged.
Four men identified as T Sny der J E Grow ney E J Sheridan and S G Sheri dan of New Jersey face a preliminary hearing in St. Petersburg on charges of attempting to extort 1500 from John Overheul. Detectives arrested them near an Indian shell mound after a dummy package was left as a trap. They denied involvement.
